I am referring to the exterior CR-V EX-L vertical light panels at the rear (either side)--from the top down. As an example, panel #3 (from the top) is the brake light. But what is panel #1 (the top panel)? Does it ever light up? (I cannot see a bulb below the surface, but I'm not sure of this.) Is it a phony panel?

Thanks for the warm reception to the Club. Over 100 members have read my question and not one has found it of sufficient interest to respond.

Welcome!

Sometimes people get missed when they post. Sorry on behalf of all of the other members. I don't recall reading this one.

The panel may be for other countries/markets. In the US, it's a blank.

I couldn't see a bulb in it. I had my wife step on the brake, nothing. Why not stick the brake lights up there and do away with the one in the middle. Does a brake light have to be in the middle by law?

I think Honda designed the overall shape of the of the taillight first, before making segments for each light function. Maybe the top section was never intended for any bulb. It has that "Volvo" look.

Actually I suspect that Volvo has the CR-V look. Does anyone know who did it first? Some GM minivans had some wretched lights high as well but they were not cool.

Although a few makes, including Volvo have had the stacked taillights for several years, the G3 CRV's lights follow the style of the newest Volvo's pretty closely.

I seen a Volvo wagon last night, older, I am guessing mid to late 90's with the stacked lights. The top panel on it did nothing either. I seen the parking lights, brake lights, and turnsignals. The top panel was dark.

Thanks a million for all the info on the top stacked light (it IS a phony). Even the salesman at my Honda dealer did not not have the right answer.

There is hope for those irregular shaped taillights. This is what i did:

Tail lights have been partially blacked out using VHT Nightshades. I changed the configuration of the tail lights and blinkers also. Tail light is now where the blinker used to be behind the upper clear lens and bulb replaced with a red one (they have high output red LED brake/tail lights also). The blinker has moved up right above the brake/tail lights. The very top bulb has been removed because it is not needed.

I wanna get some opinions on the tail lights section because I was never a big fan of the CR-V long tail lights. I can always move the lights back to the original configuration because the black paint is translucent and the lights still shine red through the Nightshades.

Those are cool pictures !

Could you give us details on where you bought the LED lights and if the OEM wiring needs to be changed.

Oh yea...the Lumina APV !!!! :(

...but I HAVE been wondering about getting EVERYTHING (all sections) all lit up -- running + brake !!??!!

Should only take some sockets, bulbs and some wire.....

Cool "black out" mod!
