bozzakwebmaster 11-25-2009, 09:08 PM Hi,
Just wondering what tires people on here have chosen for there CR-V.
I'm in search of winter tires for my 2009 CR-V - Anyone going with a 16" rim/tire combo? Is that possible on the 2009 CR-V???
That's what I'm thinking of doing...
Thanks
Martin
drdave00 11-25-2009, 09:11 PM I am running Toyo Observe G-02 ice tire in stock size. They work great and are quieter than the stock all seasons!
bozzakwebmaster 11-25-2009, 09:36 PM Awesome, thanks for the suggestion.
The reason why I was asking about the 16" is that there seems to be a lack of affordable 17" steel rims... Just want to make sure that there is no rubbing or anything... tirerack.com seems to say that 16"s are fine but I just want to make sure...
pepollock 11-28-2009, 03:42 PM I got the Firestone Winterforce winter tires on 16" steel wheels, from The Tire Rack a year ago. No 17" steel wheels were available and I couldn't see spending the $$$ for alloy wheels for winter use (potholes, road salt, etc.) The Winterforce tires work very well in loose and packed snow but are very noisy on bare pavement. For the price they are a very good deal.
I picked-up a set of plastic wheel covers locally and spray-painted them a "graphite" color. Nice look on my silver '07.
I'll be putting them on this weekend.

pepollock 11-28-2009, 03:48 PM Oh yeah... one more thing. I skipped the TPMS for the winter wheels. They are expensive and a pain to program. (Many posts on this forum about problems swapping wheels with TPMS) The yellow light on my instruments stays on all the time, but it's easy to ignore or cover with a piece of black tape. Come spring, all will be right again.

Todd05CRV 11-29-2009, 12:18 PM General Arctic Altimax snows over here... Out of the German Continental factory, using the Gislaved tread pattern. Very nice tires, outran the Five-Oh last winter on them... :p
crv_sj 12-02-2009, 02:34 PM what are the sizes of the current stock tire on 2009's ?
what is the bolt pattern ?
i'm in a similar situation
I think its 225/65TR17 , so going with 16's will be fine. but its the height that we have to watch out for.
crv_sj 12-02-2009, 07:28 PM just researched..
i'll probably go with 225/70/16
bozzakwebmaster 12-08-2009, 02:52 PM I made my decision and bought some 225/70/16 Bridgestone Blizzaks.
I just had a question for everyone about the Tire Pressure Monitor System - my wife called a Honda dealer to see if they could give us a better price on these tires. They told her that they do not sell tires without the TPMS because it not only monitors Tire Pressure but also vehicle stability. So now my wife is all worried that we need the TPMS modules or else we will flip over.
I think the dealer is bullsh*ting us and trying to sell these thing by using scare tactics - but are they correct?
illegal 12-08-2009, 03:57 PM I have a 235/55/16, and the next set of tires I'm going with are the bfg Ta-T Traction's. $97 dollars each.

My understanding is that you can't turn off VSA without TPMS...

So I guess that's not a bad thing... in terms of safety. Right?

http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?p=820881#post820881 It does not effect the VSA at all... Not sure if it's the same for CR-V.

Okaaaaay, I think it confirmed what I originally said...
ApGap 12-11-2009, 04:18 PM The VSA function is not effected but the ability to disengage the VSA when desired no longer works. If you drive in very heavy snow or springtime muddy roads that can create major problems.
I am using steel 16's with 225/70 16 Cooper Discover ST2. Work great.
Omsok 12-24-2009, 04:06 PM Hi:
If you buy the tires form Honda, ask them to make sure they will not charge you to reprogram the TPMS twice a year.
