Hello all,
I've had my CRV for about a month now, its a EX-L without NAV. so unfortunately I did not get the stereo upgrade that comes along with the NAV model.
Question for the NAV model 07 owners, how is the rear speaker/bass system? Is the sound quality good? To be honest, the rear speakers in my EX-L without NAV is just not cutting it. When I'm driving, I can barely hear anything from the rear speakers... its all from my front speakers. (the fade is centered) and my passengers has said that they can barely hear anything from the back speakers while sitting back there.
So... is the Bass System worth the upgrade? $326.40 from H&A plus however much installation would cost? Or should I go with crutchfield.com and look to replace the rear speakers only? If thats the case, would I need anything more than 2 new speakers? would power/electical needs be a concern?
thanks!

I put the bass system in my wifes 07 CR-V about a month ago. It made a huge difference. She loves it.

I'm pretty satisfied with the system in my EX-L with nav. There is plenty of bass if I turn it all the way up, but I'm no expert on audio systems. I think the best way for you to figure out if the Bass System is worth it is to test out a nav system at the dealer.

How did the installation go? I read your thread about the speaker upgrade, but it seems like you probably have more experience doing it than i do. and looking at the installation instructions... i doubt i want to do all that.
would upgrading the rear speakers with aftermarket speakers make a big difference? alpine, boston acustics, kenwood, etc? would I need a amp or something? its probably cheaper than buying the bass system upgrade and having it installed?
thanks.

Well I don't think that just doing the speakers would do much. The system has an amp that goes under the pass. seat might be a pre-amp. As far as the install goes anyone can do it. Just follow the directions step by step. The only non standard tool I used was a small plastic putty knife from Home Dumpo to help take the door panel off. There is no wire splicing involved its all plug in and play. You can do this just take your time!!!! Also having a helper to support the door panels while you change the speakers out will help a lot and keep you from having to diconnect the window and door lock wiring.

Hi,
I'm still waiting for an answer from my Honda dealer but as it is I beleive that there is a flaw in the design of the rear amplifier. When the fader is adjusted towards the rear speakers the power to the sub-woofer is proportionaly lower to a point where it is nearly turned off when the fader is adjusted the rear speakers only. If this behavior is "normal" and Honda did not catch the problem before releasing the product, well it doesn't make me fell confident about the rest of the vehicule. For now I have a complaint opened with Honda Canada I suggest that we all log a complaint and they "might" work on a fix to the problem. This is my fifth Honda, the other served me perfectly and where very reliable but they did not have any luxury, what you had is what you payed for. Honda seem to be targetting the more luxury market but are they able to level up? I'm realy not sure ...but I still hope but only futur will tell.

Be careful when selecting aftermarket speakers, the OEM ones come with a very VERY small magnet because of lack of space in between with the window. So if you get aftermarket with regular size magnet your rear windows will not go all the way down.
A workaround is to build custom spaciers. There is a thread on it here. Do a search.
Here's some pictures of the front OEM speakers which a assume are identical to the front ones size wise.
I'm planning to replace the rear door speakers with aftermarket. The OEM bass system is too much $$ and it doesn't work on 2008 EX-L since I already have a subwoofer sitting under the passenger seat.
I'll probably look for two-way speakers but before have to check if there are crossovers cutting the range.

When you buy new speakers, you can actually use a knife and cut the old speaker out, the ninstall your new ones on the ring it was attached to, which will give you the clearance to avoid the window and it will still fit in the small hole given, as long as it is a 5" speaker I think is the size for that year.

That and the lack of a little oomph in the engine dept are my 2 sore points about my CRV. Seriously...the rear speakers are a joke !! Inexcusable!!

You can fit 6.5 coax's in the rear doors on the 07-09 models. Seal the door up with sound deadening mat and it will provide plenty of bass. If that's not enough, there are plenty of small subwoofer options out there as well.
My thought is this, if you're going to go through the trouble of taking the doors apart and installing speakers, why install stock speakers when there are much better options out there for the same money?
Honda Rear Bass upgrade: $326
Best Buy.com
Power Acoustik PS840 4ch amp $81.89
Pioneer 5.25 Component speakers $135.89
Pioneer 6.5 full range speakers $89.99
LOC $24.99
$332.26
You can get a set of components for the front, and coax's for the rears, with a 4 ch amp to power them for the same money.
