I'm looking at getting several accessories for my 07 CRV and wanted to see if others have them and how they like them:
1. Fog Lights - I've noticed that the regular headlights don't seem to shed enough light to the sides of the vehicle, making it difficult when turning corners at night, or going around sharp curves. Do the fog lights help with that, and do you leave them on all the time?
2. Moonroof Visor - While the CRV does have a mechanism that helps keep noise down, it's still a bit much for me. I had a visor on my Accord and liked it. Kept the noise down and the air from blowing in too much. Does the CRV moonroof visor pretty much do the same thing? Has it helped with keeping the noise lower?
3. Hood Protector - I'm just worried about getting too many paint chips on the front hood and thought that the hood visor would be a good way to go? Is it easy to keep clean and does it really help protect the hood?
Appreciate any thoughts

The mechanism you mention is a wind deflector, not a noise reducer. It actually increases the wind noise. I notice when driving with the moonroof open and holding the deflector down with my hand, the wind noise is lower. I don't have the visor, so I can't tell you how it would interact with the wind deflector. Maybe an 07 owner with the visor can answer that for you.

Fog lights = a plus for me. I like the look & they do help illuminate the sides of the road more.
Visor I didn't opt for because it looked as if it would take up too much open space, which is why I wanted the sunroof in the first place. They already come with a wind deflector. Wind deflectors, well...deflect wind...but in doing so, they also eliminate the wind/roof "buffeting" (thumping) that can (& does) happen in many vehicles..
Hood protector I opted for the 3M clear shielf. It's almost totally invisible (can see the seams from different angles at different times) and works quite well. Only "pain-in-the-butts" it cause was price ($561 installed) & availability to find a certified 3M installer (even the certified one I used had to do it twice).

1) Fog Lights
Although quite expensive, I purchased the factory foglights from Honda when I purchased my car and am very happy with them. Without them, I find the front bumper just weird looking with the holes just black plastic. I like how the factory fog light controls are also on headlight stalk of on the steering column compared to a switch on the dashboard if you were to buy them from a third party supplier.
2) Moonroof Visor
I am contemplating getting one of these myself. However, I think the moonroof on the 2007 V is a little too small to begin with and I know the visor will block out even more natural light.
3) Hood Protector
Like Connermt, I also got the 3M paint protection film for my hood, bumpers, mirrors, and headlights. I like the results and can see how this product would protect my front end from small paint chips and insects, but not too sure how it would fare against some of the bigger stones and debris you encounter doing a lot of highway and off road driving.
There are no certified 3M installers in my area, so I saved quite a bit of money by installing this by myself. I know I didn't do nearly as good a job as a professional would, but the result came out pretty good and the seams are pretty hard to see unless the car is dirty or you look at the hood at an angle. You can find the paint protection on E-Bay and can get also buy the squeegie and accessories to do a self-install. Just make sure you have a lot of patience as the job can take hours.

Thanks for the advice. The foglights seem to be a popular and very functional accessory. While expensive, they should be worth it in the end.
I agree that the sunroof is small to begin with. I noticed that this weekend. You are correct that a visor would block out what little space there is. I guess I can live without it for now. At least I have the 270 watt sound system to raise the volume over the wind noise!!
While the 3M seal sounds tempting, the hood guard would be a lot cheaper and easier to install. Not sure it looks well with the CR-V though. I haven't seen one on it yet. Every CR-V I've seen is light blue or green with no accessories. You'd think it only came in two colors!! If anyone has pics of their V with the hood visor, could you please upload it?
Thanks

I haven't seen a V on the roads in my area with the hood deflector as of yet, but I did find a photo of it on the internet from a parts dealer.

I know it doesn't really show much, but I hope it helps.

The 3M film has been tested with rocks 3" in diameter @ 55MPH & still came through OK. Hopefully that will be all we need :D

A plastic hood deflector is good for the hood, but also consider all the painted front bumper, side fender flares & painted mirror backing (for those of us who have them). A plastic hood deflector won't help any of those areas. Just food for thought

Here's mine! So far no rock chips on the hood yet.

Not that this has much to do with the exterior accessories, but I bought a Honda cargo net, and I think it is pretty lame. Save you money.

are you serious??? that really sucks. Do you have pictures of these rock chips that a hood protector would protect it from?

The pictures are the best and the 'V' is pretty dirty....one is on the driver's upper side and I don't think the hood deflector would have prevented that one....but the other 2 are right on the front. The chips stand out on that black paint.:(

tayjenn - ouch. They do the annual sealcoat and chip thing on the rural roads around me too. Even though we slow way down, it is the idiots coming the other way still doing 60+mph that cause the damage.

The stock device does eliminate noise. I had a Audi A4 that the sunroof was replaced. The "technician" left that off on the install. The noise was terrible and I had to close the sunroof immediately.

1.The fog lamps work well, I've had them on all my cars for years. I use them at night on all but well lit freeways and streets. I live in a rural area.
2. The moon roof visor is something I have wanted to do on all my cars with sunroofs. I live in SOCAL and the interference in light won't matter. In fact, it will cut down on the heat and elliminate the noise.
3. I just installed the hood protector today, along with black side steps. The protector looks like it will cut down on the rock damage, but I 'm not 100% happy with its looks. There are 4 screws that show on the protector. It doesn't improve the looks of the front end. I have a beige color. Maybe some black paint on the area around the chrome H area might improve the looks.

As I stated in my post, hold the (07 CRV) deflector down while driving and HEAR the difference. I don't know what noise is eliminated in the Audi, but in the 07V it is not wind noise.

I tried the above experiment. With all the windows up and the air conditioner on, I held the deflector down. Between 25 mph and 40 mph I got a loud, low pitched, heavy, air thumping noise that I could actually feel in my eardrums. It was reminiscent of an approaching Huey helicopter. As soon as I release the deflector it would stop. Push it down & it would start again. Totally amazing.

The noise is wind buffeting and occurs usually at higher speeds with the deflector down. The original deflector on my Audi was a solid one piece unit and they replaced it with the same type as the CRV. It was noisier, as far as normal wind noise. That is why I'd like to try that larger one and see how it works.

I had the 3M film done to the front 24 inches of the hood, fenders, mirrors, head lights and lower tailgate. Thought about buying kit and doing myself. After extensive research came to the conclusion to let the pros do it. Found a Xpel distributor who did the application. They use the 3M film. Watch him do it, no way in the world could I have done a job that I would have been satisfied with.
Took him 3 hrs. of work and me 575.00 dollars. I think this is great product.

Same experience...on 3 different cars...all had the "thumping" noise when I held the deflector down

I looked at the Honda visor but the price was exorbitant.
I purchased a Benevento (sp?) visor from an Ebay vendor for ~ $45.
I like the visor, it seems sturdy, fits correctly and really diminishes wind noise.

I bought the Benevento as well from Ebay for $45. Fits like a glove and it took all of 15 minutes to install. I like the smoke color and it was a lot less than the factory version.
I also have the bug shield and also ended up getting an after market version. Once again, it fits like a glove and works well.
Cheers,

Hi,
I am thinking of getting the Moonroof Visor as well but I didn't see anyone respond to the question of function...does it cut way down on the wind sound versus the sound you get not having the visor?
I look forward to folks that have them chiming in as I am trying to decide whether to install one or not for the upcoming warmer seasons.
Thanks!
(BTW, I have a 2008 CRV)

Unfortunately this member has not logged into the site since last June so I doubt you will be able to get more info from her.
I had the fog lamps installed and I installed the side steps and roof rack.
I like each of them...sets apart my V from the other zillion I see on the road LOL
Makes it look a "little" more SUV rather than crossover/car like.
Just got the cargo liner as well, each mod was well worth it IMO.

Last week I had installed the OEM foglights (purchased the kit online and had a local dealer do the install). I thought the lights would provide needed additional nighttime illumination, which they do, especially to the sides of the vehicle. Not cheap but a definite improvement. I wish the surrounding lens bezel was chrome instead of black, to visually "pop" the lights a bit more against the dark front bumper, but they do give the front some added visual appeal nevertheless. Like some others who posted similar, I was a bit paranoid about having any resulting rattles or noises after the install (since the front bumper and some of the lower dash and steering column panels were removed/reinstalled), but everything seems to be exactly as before.
I also added the roof rack, which I installed myself. Again purchased the kit online, and found the install to be pretty easy. I was aware of the Honda technical bulletin about whistling roof racks (apparently due to warpage of the black rubber insert across the top of each bar...mine were not warped). I was careful to make sure I installed the front one facing forward as indicated on the attached decal, and the rear one accordingly. Much to my relief, I have noticed no additional noise since its installation (though its presence must cause some addtional turbulence).
Have spent enough as of late on this new indulgence...no more for now!
