View Full Version : Unused Spare to replace well worn tire?

One of my tires had a road hazard cut, it's leaking very slowly, but the
gash is long and the Tire should be replaced.
Can I replace the damaged tire with the unused spare? or will there be a problem with the drive-line in AWD since one tire sits higher than the other three? The three good tires are the original Bridgestones and have almost 19000 miles on them.

Sorry, but this is another example why 5 tire rotations should be done.

Looks like the tire is going to be usable with a slow leaking nail and a surface scratch. Decided not to drive
the 5 miles to the tire shop on the unused spare just to be on the safe side for my CRV baby.

Only 5 miles? You would have been OK. :)

What will you do if you get another flat 10, 15, 20 or more miles away?

Nail flattened tire fixed for a ten spot. going to order some Bridgestones
p215 65 16's to have them on hand if a tire takes a major road hazard and
is not usable.

Anyone know of a good deal on Bridgestone duellers p215 65 16 HT ?

5/10 miles would have been fine.

Always carry in the vehicle, a $4 patch kit from Wal-Mart. They come with 2 or more plugs and the 2 tools to make it happen. Well worth the cost. Also carry a small 12V air compressor to go with it. Something has to go in that fake spare tire well under the picnic table...

You actually want to buy more of the stock, junk, noisy, worthless Bridgestone tires? Why? For less money, get a better tire.

See that Firestone has the stock Bridgestone Dueller, have Duellers on my
Fj cruiser also. I find the stock CRV Bridgestone to be more than adequate for my purposes. Can't see buying 4 or 5 new tires when I can buy just 3 or 4 new Bridgestones and use the unused spare. But buying new tires could be a long way off. . . what tire do you recommend that is quieter and better ?

Learned a lot from this site. Most valuable info is that the rear diff uses
Honda DUAL PUMP fluid not gear oil! and I have over 30 qts of Redline gear oil sitting in my garage.

With 18K on the v now the valves are seated comfy (think they were seated at around 6-7K because there was an increase in gas mileage then) I am ready for a synthetic motor oil, not sure if Redline is totally compatible with aluminum engines? Any recommendations besides amzoil and Mobile 1 (Mobile is a Wax (Parafin base) and I prefer a Polyester base synthetic oil.

Redline is fine as is Mobil 1. Do you realize that most of the world's top performance cars come with Mobil 1 in the crankcase from the factory? Really though, you don't NEED synthetic oil in your Honda. I run synthetic in some of my other vehicles, but not in daily drivers. Other than more cost, there really isn't any benefits to be had unless you plan on keeping the vehicle for the rest of your life. Even then - the rest of the car would be trashed and you "may" still have a good engine.
