Hi, recently bought a 1997 Honda CRV, and on checking the tyres, it seems the rear tyres are of a different type; the front ones and the spare are 205/70R15 yet the back ones are 195. Is this right or not? Thanks for any help I can get with this one!

The correct tire size for your CRV is 205/70R15.

The OEM tyres are 205/70R15. The difference between 195 and 205 are the width only but the height are the same.;)

Both Lizzurd and Jerrico are right, although if you want to go with a different tire, the 215/70 R15 works pretty good, handles a little better but if your Crv is lowered don't use them.

That is incorrect. The first number of a tire's size is the width, the second number is the aspect ratio. The number is a percentage of the tire's width to height. A 195/70/15 will be approximately 25.75" tall. A 205/70/15 will be approximately 26.30" tall.
If your V is two wheel drive, it doesn't matter if your fronts are different from the rears. It may look funny, but it won't hurt anything. If you have an all-wheel drive (RTAWD) model, get them changed out for an equal-sized set.

i Have a question for any and all to answer out there. I recently was handed down my parents cr-v. I'm only 17 but i find the v to be a more fun car then most of my friends with rice. im looking for a wheel and tire change and i want to know a safe size rim and tire choice. I'm looking for appearance and size however i dont want to possibly damage anything or have problems with handling?
thanks zack

Okay I never have understood these blamed tire sizes in 205/70/R15 other than the R15 is a 15" rim. What is the stock tire height in inches? How tall can I go before I have to get a lift kit (or cut any of my tupperware)?

SEARCH for OSX2000's posts and pictures of his lifted V. He has some big tires on there.

This is a good website to compare tire sizes.

I think 17s are a pretty safe bet you will still have a fair amount of sidewall, but with any size over 15 in your gonna have a decreased sidewall height and you will become more prone to blowing a tire and denting the rim if you hit a deep pothole hard enough.

IMO, the factory recommended 205/70/15's on the 1st gen V are too darn small. Going a little bigger with 215/70/15's on my '98 gave it a beefier appearance to go along with better handling. It's a nice upgrade without going crazy about it.

I was considering 215/55 R17. Any opinions? Pluses / Minuses?
