A mixed review of an 08 Australian CR-V [11.20.07]

As there is often some debate over Japan vs. USA (Ohio) build quality here's a review of one made in Thailand.

Have some of the same comments, but disagree also.

I don't know that the A/C in mine is as terrible as what was stated in the article, but I am not overly impressed with the A/C in the summer or the amount of heat in the winter.

The power is only adequate, but so what? If I wanted power, I would not have bought a CR-V.

I don't agree with the handling comments, but I come from a world of low end junkers, so the V seems to handle quite well to me.

Their comments on the transmission's performance on hills is a bit mystifying. We have hills in Pittsburgh and some are quite steep. The CR-V is the best vehicle I have ever owned for handling steep grades without shift hunting.

The fit on my vehicle is excellent.

When you look at the price, however, wow! $41k australian is $35k US. No wonder they are getting snooty.

I am glad we have Acuras in the US. I don't have $35K for a CR-V.

Hmmmm interesting! I found that on our CRV that in the winter I NEVER need to turn the heat all the way to the red and for the A\C never need to go all the way to the blue. This was the first new car we ever owned that the heating\cooling worked better than expected.

AutoWeb - Honda CRV Luxury
I am surprised at the autoweb review of the Thai built CR-V. I live in Thailand and purchased my 4WD EX-L 5AT with all options (except sunroof & Nav) in Dec 07, after considerable research and scrutiny of the local models. I examined no less that 8-10 vehicles (and I am bloody fussy) including my own, when delivered, and found that the build quality was faultless.

Aircon :: the hot season is almost in full swing here (35-40 degrees C) and find the aircon system (dual zone)is more than adequate.

The autoweb reviewer comment re the rear lid flexing. I would challenge him to try this on any 2 point hinged boot door.He is dredging the bottom of the barrel with this complaint

In conclusion my CR-V is a great vehicle in every aspect, impeccable road manners, very economical and backed up with excellent local Bangkok Honda dealership support.

PS:: I have read mixed experienced reviews re fuel economy. For the first 1000km my 2.4 iVTEC petrol, returned a measured 10.5l/100km. Now after 2,500km I am getting an amazing 8.5l/100km. My driving is a mix of about 50/50 urban- highway and I am prone to a heavy right foot on occasions.
Note that my figures are accurately measured and not the dash display info (tho it tells me almost the same within 0.3 of a litre)

It's been at 104 to 105C for the past couple of weeks in Los Angeles, I found the AC quite good........also the fit and finish is good on my 09 LX........as for the power...........well yes.........a little more would be better but most knew this going in as it crops up in every review I have ever read............I think the review writer got a bum demo.........or just doesn't like Honda CR-V's
