i have never seen a car go up that much in price in one shot.

main difference is the increase in horses and base model now have mags as standard. seems like honda is trying to market the crv as a fancy suv now. the base rav4 fwd is C$5k cheaper.
It's an underhanded way of offsetting the rebates they offer on their vehicles. Also, as we're coming closer to par with the U.S. dollar, they're going to squeeze us for every penny in the meantime.

IMO, the increase in HP/torque is marketing strategy. Just to say that HONDA is on par with other manufacturer's specs.\

BUT I still love my '08.

2010 CR-V, No engine cover for you!

After sending a letter off to American Honda Customer Service, I got a phone call this afternoon.

To sum it up,
1) Honda does not know why the engine cover was ommitted and
2) Honda intentionally left it off and
3) Honda won't do a thing about it

So there, no engine cover for you! NEXT!

The only reasons I can think of are these. Choose the one you like:

1) Slightly larger engine means slightly more heat to dissipate. Maybe 2009 style engine cover traps heat from engine around fuel injectors and fuel rail causing fuel management issues, who knows.
2) It saves them $15 per car.
3) American Honda Customer Service likes saying "Gee, I don't know"
4) and finally, Honda just loves that unfinished raw machine look!

If there is a Honda Rep monitoring this forum, please pitch in and give us your ideas.

1) Does the lack of the engine cover affect the way the 2010 Drives?

2) Should a person lose sleep over a missing piece of plastic?

3) Can a customer service rep be expected to know why the design or engineering departments left off said piece of plastic?

I haven't had a good look at the new engine.....But is it possible that the new design did not allow for a clean mounting of the cover and it wouylf have looked like an after thought?

Yes, according to science, the cover was used as ballast to keep 1.25lbs weighed down on the right side of the car so that when used in Nascar, the Cr-v could turn left and the 1.25lbs of downforce on that side of the car would help bury the right wheels into the embankment to keep the car on track. Without it, exceeding speeds of 200 mph could be too dangerous to attempt.

We have asked the same question about the engine cover when we started building the 2010. And so far no one seems to know why it was omitted. But I do know someone that works in the New Model Dept. I will ask them to see if they know why.

May I install a 2009 engine cover?

From the answers you get as to why it was left off, may I install a 2009 engine cover on my 2010? Honda Builder: will this effect my warranty?

The parts I had in mind are:
17121-RAA-A00 (1) COVER ASSY., ENGINE
17123-RAA-A00 (1) STAY ASSY. A, ENGINE COVER
17213-P8A-A00 (1) RUBBER, IN. MANIFOLD COVER MOUNTING
90207-RAA-A00 (2) NUT, HEX. CAP (6MM)
95701-06014-08 (1) BOLT, FLANGE (6X14)
90015-RAA-A00 (2) BOLT A, ENGINE COVER

Parts Manager: Are these the right parts and are the manifolds the same?

No, it won't drive any better and
No, it won't handle any better and
No, it won't cost me any sleep, because I don't get any sleep anyways and
Yes - $27,200 should buy a complete car with a nice looking engine cover and
No, BMW has never left off an engine cover, now would they?!

So why don't I go buy a BMW? Just might - had 2 of them and a Porsche 911but I've never seen a BMW or Porsche being towed behind a motorhome! LOL
Who knows, may trade this 2010 CR-V EX-L with Navi in white, in on a new, complete BMW and tow it in an enclosed trailer.

Sorry for the rampage, this just bugs me. If it dosen't bug you, 2010 owner, then you need to look at a 2009 engine and then look at your 2010. If you don't notice anything different, then, please excuse this post!

Since the manifold on the 2010 is a totally different design i am thinking the cover from the 2009 CRV will not fit. When i get time today i will slip out to the lot and look at both designs and see if i can get some good pics. The key to why the cover was left off is because the new intake manifold is plastic?

I was told it was altimately left off because of money. It would save like 3-5 bucks on a vehicle, but when you mulitply that buy several hundred thousand cars a year over the course of 6 years. It adds up too alot.

And I believe lizzurd is right, the 09 engine cover will not fit the 2010.

I noticed that attached to the black (maybe plastic) intake manifold is a
mounting flange or shelf that runs along the top of the manifold. It's 10.75" X 1" with a vertical spine about 1/4 inch running almost the full length in the center.

This looks like a mounting flange or seat for the engine cover to sit on top of, to align and seat the engine cover.
If this is the same flange that's on a 2009, then perhaps a 2009 cover will fit.
