CR-V Fog Light Bulb Mod
Hi Guys,
I ordered the fog light kit from New Egg Mall. I've heard it comes with all the pieces the OEM kit does, so I am curious to see how it's going to work out. I downloaded the instructions and it appears the fog lights use an H11 bulb. This is interesting because you can easily modify an H9 to fit an H11 socket. The difference between the bulbs is enormous. The H11 is a 55W halogen unit that puts out about 1200 lumiens. An H9 is a 65W bulb that puts out over 2100 lumiens. My motorcycle uses H11s for the low beams, but I modified them to accept H9s. The difference was pretty big. Heat and power draw should not be issues since it's just a 10W difference. It's an easy mod and you can get H9s at Wal Mart pretty cheap. Out of curiosity, has anyone tried this on the Honda foglights? |

While it usually isn't a problem, depending on the materials 10W can be pretty substantial.

True, I think it's really a question of amp draw you have to look at. I've been running the H9s in my bike for a couple of years now with no issues. So I doubt it will be a problem with the fog lights. The light output is much higher with the H9, so if it works, it would be a pretty nice way to get more light out of the fogs short of upgrading them to HID.

Fog lights from NewEgg
Can someone please post a direct link for the fog lights from New Egg? I have searched their site and have been unable to find anything related to the 3rd generation CRV. Thanks all.

What was the kit that you bought from K2Motors like? Was there a proper wiring harness, was it plug & play or was there alot of extra work involved?
I like the idea that these kits are under $100, but I'd be worried about the quality... Info is appreciated - Thanks in advance.

I'm still waiting on my kit to come in. Another guy on here got it, and it seems to be the same quality as the OEM kit. He mentioned something about having to modify the wiring harness, but didn't say anything specifically about how it needed to be done. I'm guessing I will know more when I see the kit in person.

Okay, my kit came in today. It seems to be fairly high quality. Not sure how the wiring harnesses are going to work out. But, my kit did not come with the trim rings. Not sure what's up with that. I guess I am going to have to be extra careful when I trim the holes open. But still, for $78, it's hard to complain.
It does indeed use an H11 bulb, so that means it can be modded to accept an H9. That's pretty cool. I will try to do the install this weekend if I have time and I will let you guys know how it goes. |

Let us know how the H9 bulbs work, change one first and compare it with the H11, post some pictures as well.
I want to do it as well; but may put some yellow bulbs when get some extra $ for the snow. |

I went ahead and ordered some trim rings from Honda so I could do the install all the way correctly. I need to get a smaller switch. I'll stop by Autozone and see what they have. Other than that, I am ready to go. I will probably install them on Saturday.
