Automatic Transmission Noise

When I start the car from COLD, and engage the gearshift into reverse or drive, there is a whining noise coming from under the car. I can only assume that the transmission is involved, as the noise goes away when I take it out of gear. Once the car has warmed up the noise goes away, making a trip to the dealer a waste of time, unless I opt to leave the car there for an overnight stay.

Any clues?

A whining noise can be the fuel pump, or an AC starting if it is already turned on. Or it could be the lock-out mechanism stopping. I don't think it's anything wrong at all, regardless of year. But having more info would help.

Noise

If it is a noise and it happens when cold outside and you have a 2008 there is a TSB out there about a defective oil pump.

TSBs are available on this forum.
