irwinje: Go to Starved Rock in the winter, stay at one of the "cabins". It is really neat. If you want more modern luxury and like indoor water parks, a couple miles away is the Grand Bear Resort. Wow.

Thumbs up Mt Evans climb.

These photo's are from our trip to Colorado earlier this summer. It was the first test of our CRV in the mountains and I'm happy to say this vehicle performed flawlessly! The engine pulled hard through the mountain passes and the grade logic helped maintain a safe speed on the way down. Great scenery and fun at 14,240ft.

#1 Mount Evans road.
#2 Summit Lake about 3/4 way up to the summit 12,000ft
#3 Highest paved road in North America!

Thanks. It's scary how fast the weather changes at those elevations. No more than 20 minutes after those pictures were taken the clouds came in and it started snowing like heck...and this was August!

I appreciate the reccomendations, I'll take it to mind. Typically I'm the type of guy that likes to live off the land.
