'08 Build Quality

Hey guys -- I'm just about to purchase an '08 CR-V, but I'm concerned in the difference of build quality between the different factories.

I notice that most LX models are built in Mexico, and the EX and EX-L models are split between Ohio and Japan. Are my serious quality concerns on a Mexican assembled LX legitimate? What are yall's experiences or advice? Are the non-Japanese assembled models more prone to rattle or rapid warranty service?

I've owned an '04 EX and currently own a '06 LX -- the '06 we're VERY pleased with, and both were built in Japan.

Currently I'm trading out of an 8th gen Civic Si, which has left a lot to be desired. It rattles like crazy --sometimes feels like a 4 year old Cavalier.

Thanks in advance!

There is another thread here named something along the lines of 'important of where it was made'. Look at that. As I recall, the jap built models had a higher incidence of issues. Still, regardless of where it is made, the CR-V is still top rated when it comes to warrenty and service issues in relationship to its competition.

I can't comment on the build quality of the Mexican vs US vs Japanese CRV models, but, if it's any help, I own an '04 Chrysler PT Cruiser that was made in Mexico and the thing is rock solid, no quality issues at all. They built a darn good car. Not that one factory's quality will translate to another's but it does show good stuff comes out of Mexico. I'm probably going to buy an EX AWD and I really could care less as to where it's made. Hondas have such a good reliability rating that the point is moot.

Welcome To The Club!

Welcome to the club and glad to hear that you Mexican built V is a good quality machine. My own personal belief is that the quality of the product will be a reflection of the managment of the factory and not where it is located. So with more post such as yours maybe people can put these fears to bed. Quite some mileage you are putting on. Glad I don't have your fuel bill! Welcome to the club. Thanks for your post and we hope to hear more of your experiences with your V.

MY 08 EX-L was built in Ohio. Already hit 1000 miles and no problems at all. Some of the weird build-quality things Ive noticed was in the seam-sealer that was applied in the tailgate area (up by the hinges). Looks pretty sloppy.

Also the welds on the rear doors. One door, the weld was grinded down flush and looks nice. The other door, the weld was left alone. I think the average person wouldn't notice these things but I do.
