Honda Remote Starter

I just bought a 2008 CR-V and had them install the remote starter accessory (made by Honda). When I use the remote starter, I cannot unlock the doors using my keyless entry key-remote/fob.

I think this is by design because it makes you shut off the remote starter before officially starting the engine. But the manual does not say this. Does anyone know? It's a real pain if it is the way it's supposed to work.

Airedale1005,

Yes this is by design for security and safety reasons set forth by Honda.

well....

I WAS wanting this option added this summer...but the "safety" concept makes no sense...I just traded my '06 HHR w/remote start...worked like you'd expect...

Anyone know if the aftermarket ones do the same?

Five seconds after the car starts,
click the auto starter button one more time.

The doors should unlock.

If you have any trouble understanding anything about the system, stop in at a place that installs the things. They will tell you everything you need to know in less than 2 minutes.

Worked for me.

From College Hills Honda FAQ:

Q: Does the Honda Remote Starter System function differently than aftermarket versions?
A: Yes, the system functions differently in the following ways:
• Unlike aftermarket versions, the Honda system shuts the engine off when you unlock
the vehicle. You must restart the vehicle, which provides additional security and safety.

Ok, this is indeed weird

We just got our CRV on Monday...I started it tonight...a couple things:

1) The lights don't turn on. That's ok, except at night, in a dark parking lot, when you are looking for some security of having your lights on.

2) I could not use my key to unlock the car...I hit it five times standing at the back, trying to lift the rear door up...to no avail.

3) You have to stop the starter on the starter fob (which weighs as much as a small brick), then hit the unlock button on the key. This is just stupid. When snow flys, in my Acadia, I have one key fob for everything, I hit "lock" then "start", the lights come on...I walk about in five minutes, hit "unlock" on my key fob, grab my snow brush and begin to knock the snow off...as the Acadia still defrosts the windows, mirrors and turns my heated seats on.

Now, I'm still very, very happy with our purchase, as this is my wife's car, she'll have to deal with this, but I think this is a PITA.

Start the car (the starter fob is "cool"), stop the car, unlock the car, get the snowbrush, lock the car, restart the car, scrape the widows, stop the car, unlock the car, put brush back, sit down, restart car. WTF?

Another Remote Starter Question

Hello!

I am new to the forum!
I am awaiting delivery on my new 2008 CR-V EX-L 4wd with Nav in Green Tea Metallic with Ivory leather interior.
I probably won't see it until end of May (I was told it is going into production in Japan April 13)

I purchased WeatherTech Floor Liners for front, back and cargo areas, as well as front mudguards, all of which I will install myself.

I would like to add a remote engine starter, but when I called two dealers in my area, they both told me that they don't install them - they recommend an aftermarket Viper and a third party installer.

Is this a good idea?
Does it affect the warranty?
Is there any advantage to going this route, or am I better off going with certified Honda accessories and a certified dealer for install?

This is an expensive add-on, and I want to have it doen right.

Many thanks in advance for the help and wisdom of this great forum!

If you have a dealer install the aftermarket starter it will be covered under warranty and will not be held against you if something fails and it is linked bak to the add-on. If you have it installed by 3rd party, you may have issues with the warranty later on. Our G3 remote starter was installed by the dealer. The aftermarket remote fob will open the locks while the car is running and also turn on the lights vs the honda remote which according to other posts will not do either. Note- the Honda fob will not open the doors when the engine is running, even with the remote start.

Any Good Suggestions on Aftermarket Remote Starters?

I guess I am OK with an aftermarket starter, as long as I don't jeopardize the original Honda warranty.

I have done previous searches on this forum regarding aftermarket remote engine starters, but wondered if I could get a few more opinions on some name brand starters that I could look into.

Viper was suggested by the dealer, as well as the installer, but there are so many versions and options, that some specific suggestions would be most welcome!

Features I would like:
Start the car (200ft)
Start the defrosters (windshield and rear window)
Start the side mirror heaters?
Ability to unlock the car while it is running

What can I expect to pay for a starter like this?
Who offers them with these features?

Again, thanks in advance for your patience with this newbie
