CR-V Diesel in the USA - When?
Either a CR-V or a VW Tiguan diesel will be my next vehicle as the wife wants to 'sit up higher'. My VW Jetta TDI now has 107K and runs well and has been quite reliable. I've been delaying getting a new vehicle until the diesels get here (unfortunately, she wants an automatic
)Likely whoever gets here first will get my business. So, Honda folks, anybody got an idea as to the timeline? Thanks, John C |

No idea for sure, but I do know that it's going to be an interesting few years in the auto industry. With diesel and the legislated 35mpg due to be mandatory in a few years, vehicle prices are sure to go up. Can the market afford it?

Thanks for that. No one knows on the VW side either
.Off topic, I heard a projection that photovoltaics will be producing electricy at the same cost as coal fired uilities in five years. If batteries come along too, vehicles will really become interesting. John C |

you'll be waiting for a loooooooooooong time before you see any brand new japanese diesels in north america. im wonder if it's coz of the cost and emissions are what's stopping them from bringing in diesels.
audi i believe will have a diesel version of their suv end of this year or early next year CanadianDriver: First Drive - 2009 Audi Q7 TDI diesel but then it'll cost an arm and a leg to buy. mercedes already have diesels for their ML series. Last edited by jeprox : 05-08-2008 at 06:17 PM. |

What I liked about the Tiggy was you can get the Diesel with Auto but sadly not with the CR-V. Also with the VW the Sunroof is a proper and huge open roof. I just wish Honda had given us the opportunity in having the roof open. The other thing I liked with the Tiggy is the SatNav besides doubling up as an SD Media Player, it can also play movie files as well. If only the CR-V could do this...... Having said this and with all things considered, it's the CR-V I'm pumping for. I love my VW's (have had many over the years) but the CR-V in this instance is delivering so much more. Sorry I took the thread a little off-track.... ....and we're back on topic ![]() |

Staying slightly off topic: the new 2008 Euro Accord will have an auto option on the lower power 150hp diesel engine. That is a good sign for a future diesel auto CR-V.
Actually this is relevant to US diesels, because they won't sell many without an auto option. I think the plan is to bring a slightly modified version of the i-DTEC engine found in the new Euro Accord to the US. The i-DTEC engine was on the Acura stand at the Detriot motor show. A diesel Honda in the US is a certainty, the only question is how soon?

There is also buzz about a V6 diesel that could see duty in the MDX,Pilot,Ridgeline and Odyssey. From all the reports i have read the problem manufacturers ae having is not the price of diesel in NA...but the sulfer content. Honda developing diesel V6 - AutoWeek Magazine

The sulphur content issue was resolved with the recent change to 15 ppm sulphur here in the US. This was done previously in Europe. The 2007 US diesels required it and allows NOX adsorbers and particulate traps. The new piezoelectric injectors are reported to allow up to seven injection events per power stroke, thus tailoring the combustion process to reduce NOX. I'm optimistic concerning the long term viability of diesels (and they are paying my retirement
