Swaying/bouncing at high speeds

Sometimes I feel like my CR-V is swaying or bouncing a little bit at high speeds. I'm not sure if this is becuase my previous car (Camry) was lower and had a much smoother ride and I'm just not used to it or if there is a real problem.

The feeling is similar to when a vehicle is being blown by a high wind from the side, but it doesn't actually pull to one side it just feels like it wants to.

I have tried holding the steering wheel lighlty and the wheel doesnt move but the CR-V sometimes has a noticable (but small) pull in either direction.

The effect is most notable on the highway at speeds > 40MPH

Any suggestions?

Check Your Tire Pressure

We had another member with a similar complaint and he found his tires were at 40 psig. I am assuming you have an 07 or 08. The dealers sometime jack the tire pressures up to keep the stupid TPMS light from coming on. The door jam sticker states 30 psig. You can run the tires higher than 30 but a harder ride results. The V rides harder and will not handle as a Camry due to the stiffer suspension and higher center of gravity. Also the stock tires are not exactly performance tires.

Welcome to the club. Hope this helps.

I noticed the same problem with my new 2002 CR-V this weekend when I made a 6 hour trip on the interstate. It was kind of scary, actually. I didn't notice the issue much unless I started going over 70 mph or so (which I don't do much anymore these days), but it was concerning all the same. I asked my boyfriend and he said it could be caused by having your tires inflated at different pressures, which mine were because two of them are leaky, one more so than the other (getting new ones in two weeks!).

Either way, it sounds like the answer to the problem is to make sure that all four tires are properly inflated to the correct pressure. I'm glad I found someone else with the issue, so I don't feel like such a weirdo

The CR-V Is An SUV

Don't forget the CR-V is an SUV. It has a hard suspension, tougher tires, and a higher center of gravity than a car. It will not ride or handle as well as a car. Keep your tires properly inflated and just realize that its CR-V not an Accord.

Yeah, this is my second CR-V, replacing my old one that got munched by a semi on the interstate. I actually prefer a more jolting ride to one that feels smooth and swaying, and I've loved the way the CR-Vs handle. I can't wait to get new tires so that I can get back to my "healthy" CR-V feel!
