humming noise

I'm probably overdue for lots of stuff...

I have a 2006 CR-V with 68,000 miles...I take it to the dealership regularly for oil changes and tire rotations...They always tell me everything looks fine when they do their little "inspection"...

Anyways, this past weekend, while on the freeway, a loud "Humming" noise starts...At first I thought it was static from my statelite radio, so I turn the radio off and it still persists...It only lasted about a minute and then stopped...Then the next day, the same sound occurred again and then yesterday (the third day in a row) it started again...I didn't notice any performance issues while the noise occurred, but I know that sound cannot be normal...It wasn't the freeway, because it happened in different locations...But each time it lasted under a minute...

Should I be replacing some fluids, belts, parts, etc. after putting this many miles on it?

I'm sure somebody while help out with a technical answer to your problem, but I had to laugh because it made me think of my own little experience with strange noises when driving home last night a little after midnight...

I was cruising along eating a McD's cheeseburger on my 65 mile drive home from work last night at about 1AM. I still had my white shirt and tie on and feared I had dribbled ketchup on my tie so I poked at the reading light on the overhead console. I spent the next few minutes trying to salvage my tie while simultaneously trying to avoid running down any orange cones from all the construction zones between Denver and Loveland, Colorado on I-25.

Once through the construction zone and finished with my Atkins-unfriendly "dinner", I noticed that my CR-V was noticeably louder than my Mom's 2004 V-6 Accord. Oh well, I thought. The CR-V was still the best choice for me (over the Accord).

This morning I discovered the source of the extra noise... I had punched the sunroof tilt button when I was poking for the reading light. Woops. I guess I'm just lucky it wasn't raining or snowing... or that I didn't do it on my way to work and leave the darned thing sitting open in the parking lot for 3 days!

Barely relevant, but I chuckled at myself and figured I'd give everybody else a chance to do the same!

Have a great day.

Rod
