2007/2008 CR-V 4WD EX Pricing...

Hey everyone. I've been watching this forum for a while, but finally joined as we get closer to purchasing our next vehicle, which may be a CR-V. We like the 4WD EX in red. We can get a 2008 CR-V 4WD EX with no options (we do not want any options/accessories) for $23,091 including destination fee. Tax and DMV fees are not included. This seems to be the invoice cost + destination fee.

We can also get the same vehicle, but as a used 2007 certified used model with ~10,000 miles. The price on this would be about $21,900, but includes the additional warranty. Bumper to bumper would expire in August of 2011 and would have ~38,000 miles left on it. Powertrain coverage would expire in August of 2014 and would have ~90,000 miles left on it.

For the bumper to bumper warranty, we only gain a few months / couple thousand miles, but for the powertrain coverage, we gain 15 months / 30,000 miles over the new car warranty.

Assuming the certified used is in nearly mint condition (which I think it has to be), what do you think of the two - is the used car a better deal with it being about $1,200 less and the additional warranty coverage? (I think so, but I'm not sure my wife will agree )

One other option

I forgot to mention that we have one other option for a used 2007 CR-V EX. There is one that is NOT certified, but it's the same model with 11,000 miles for about $19,500.

We could also add the Bernardi warranty:
60 months / 84k miles: $965
60 months / 60k miles: $1045 (I'm not sure why this one is more than the 85k one?)

This would being the car to $20,500 with a better warranty. It's not certified because it wasn't traded into a Honda dealer.

So, what do you think between the three below?

NEW 2008: $23,091
------> 3 year / 36k mile BTB and 5 year / 50k PT warranty
Certified USED 2007: $21,950
------> with 10k miles and in service date of August 2007. 4 year / 48k mile BTB and 7 year / 100k PT warranty
USED 2007: $19,500 + $1,000 Bernardi 60 month / 84k mile warranty
------> with 11k miles and in service date of October 2006. Warranty would be Bernardi of 5 year / 84k mile

The last one with additional warranty for a total of $20,500 seems the best to me...

Thanks for the advice!

If you are financing then you can typically get better interest rates when buying new. The additional finance money that you spend on a used vehicle may equal the difference in price, which would make the new car a better buy.

Good luck whatever you choose do.

Not planning to finance...

Thanks Shoop. I'm not planning to finance either one. Perhaps that would make the decision easier!

Depending on where you are located you can get the EX new for about 22000 before sales tax, much closer to your certified used.

I'm in the Northeast (NY). I haven't found anybody willing to sell under the $23k mark so far.

On a side note, do the 2009's come out in the Sep/Oct timeframe? What kind of deals are usually offered on the prior year models then?

Price on EX 2WD

I picked mine up for $22500 + TTL in San Antonio, TX. Other dealers in the local area were a few hundred more.

Smile Which dealer in San Antonio?

I'm in Austin and not having much luck at getting a dealer to go more than $500 below MSRP for an EX-L. Maybe it would be worth the drive over to San Antonio for me.
Thanks in advance,
Charles

3 weeks ago, I paid $22,200 out the door for my wife's 2008 LX AWD, which is$700 BELOW invoice. I know the General Sales Manager (old college classmate). I am in the San Francisco bay area.

BTW all, just wanted to share what I have done to the car so far:
2008 White CRV LX AWD
17x7 Sport Edition D5 wheels from the Tire Rack ( retain LX TPMS sensors with strap Kit, installed at America Tire)
Viper 791XV Remote start
PIAA Xtreme white plus H4 (headlights)
Genuine Factory Fog lights
5% tint rear 5 windows and 70% tint front tow
Roof Bars
Front mud guards
RubberTite Cargo Liners

Total amount invested $24K (including the CRV) . So I am essential buying an EX without the Sunroof, which my wife doesn't use anyway.

Jack
