Unimpressive interior quality

I bought a 04 CRV EX (41,000 miles - black interior) approximately 3 months ago and I can definitely say I’m unimpressed with the quality of the interior. Here’s a short list of complaints – does anyone else have these same problems?

1. On the cloth interior the leather insets are already showing wear – cracking and splitting.
2. Plastic dash components from basically the radio down scratch very easily.
3. Front drivers and passenger’s window rattle while half way down. Only
stops rattling when ¾ down.
4. Rattles coming from everywhere,
a. Passenger side airbag
b. Sunroof
c. Windshield meets dash – passenger side
d. Rear table
e. Rear hatch door
f. Somewhere behind the drivers side rear tail light.

My 98 Ford Explorer with 200,000 km seemed higher quality in these areas.

I have an 06 EX-L,basically the same style inside and out and I honestly don't have any of the problems or noises that you have.

I have an 02 EX which is exactly the same, to explain the rattling coming from everywhere, that is easily explained.

1.In your ford explorer, if you were to remove the door panel, you would find a little bit of glue-foam to keep the noise out. I opened up my Cr-vs to replace the speakers and all I found was a thin sheet of white plastic taped to the metal door. That's it. I'm talking tear-when-touched plastic.

2.The noise coming from the back near the bumper is actually the legs on the table in the rear bouncing up and down in their feeble joints. I remedied that by tightening the bolts up and making the table harder to open up.

3.The part that rattles on the passenger side is the harness for the wires connecting your antenna and right side speakers as well as a few interior lights rattling because there is no wire clamp there, fix it by taping the wires together, and either taping it to the wires that are clamped, or go my route and clamp it to the firewall. You can pull the spring forward on the glove box and pull the glove box all the way down to fix that one.

4.You should pad your doors if you don't enjoy the road noise, because the Cr-v has a lot of road noise, I used dynamat, just because it's thin, and fairly cheap where I'm at.

5. another thing that makes noise is the antenna, if you have one, I just bought a stiffer one.

6. Also, the other rattling coming from the trunk is your muffler bouncing against the wheel dish in the back under the table, that will require muffler padding, very common, but hard to find a material that will not catch fire, also, don't put anything made of paper under the table, the muffler touches that bare metal part, and in turn heats that thing up like an oven. I found out this when I tried to use my V's bucket as an ice chest since the explanation says "water proof cargo area". The ice melted pretty quick and I had water coming out through the carpet... big mess. DOn't reccomend it...

But to answer your original question, yes, I had the same problem, and it took me one weekend to fix myself. Removing the door panels is a serious pain, but I can do it now like it's nothing.

Oh and everything on my dash is scratched to hell too. I did notice that flaw, so I had it teflon coated and that seems to help a lot, it doesn't scratch anymore.

I have the same complaint with the rattles I had to put a black rag along the outside of the passenger seat where the vinyl meets the seat because the seat rattles, also I had to stick a small cloth on the pull handle of the rear seat because that made noise.

Actually, those two never troubled me yet, but the one that that did tick me off was the center flip-up table would vibrate and so would everything in it. So Iput rubber grommets around the screws that held it to the mounting bracket and it kept it stiff.

Hi Kevins25,
I purchased a 2004 V last November with 40,000 miles. On my V the front driver's window rattles when it is not 3/4's down. The windshield rattles on the driver's side where it meets the dash. When I first got the V, I didnt know what to make of the windshield rattle. I thought the glass was going to crack or fall out LOL. As for scratches, the carwash guys seem to have scratched the glovebox with the vac hose, but I dont notice any other scratches on the dash area.
You say the passenger airbag rattles? I would get that checked out.

The airbag does rattle. When you're driving just push down hard on the cover for it and you will notice a change in irritation noise around you. The windshield vibrating is strange, I think you need to have it replaced or remounted. The window on the driver's side. I think you should pull the door panel off and straighten out the window squeegee that's mounted inside. It's made of metal with thin rubber, and if it's loose, the window rattles it. The way it mounts is with folding metal clamps that fit into the door panel. Consult the door panel removal guide somewhere on these forums and also, make sure you remove the two screws under the armrest and the door handle before you attempt to remove any of the pins, if the window bothers you that much.
