Anyone notice the use of black tape on pillars?

Has anyone noticed the use of black tape on the exterior pillars for the 2008 CRV? I was tempted to peel back a section of tape to see what is underneath. Does anyone know what kind of finish is underneath the tape? Why would Honda use such a cheap material?

I haven't noticed but why do you think it's "cheap"? Honda has been using black tape on the windshield frame on the S2000 for eight years now with no issues (all colors except black). But many people that prefer the frame to match the body color instead of the soft top do remove it. IIRC, it's stuck on pretty well but does come off and clean up just fine with some adhesive remover and a lot of patience...

I totally tried to post about this a few months ago when i first got my V and didn't get much of an answer....

I had an xb before the V and they had the black vinyl on it and i peeled it off and it was the regular paint under it... i loved it so much better without the black vinyl i'm very tempted to do it on the v too!!

door frame.. is it vinyl?

this was the thread i started about it.....
