UV Filtering on LX windows?
Hi, I'm not sure if my LX's windows filter UV at all. I know some glasses even it's clear still provides UV protection. I have a little baby and don't want his skin to get burned. If not, I will need to tint them. Thanks!

Please, please. No naked babies in the car.... On the other hand, does the sun actually shine up in Seattle occasionally?
Just kidding of course. Living in Portland I get to joke about that with impunity .ron |

I did an experiment a while regarding UV blocking in our CRV with stock glass and after tinting, I posted it in another forum tho. Well...OEM glass filters out roughly 57% of the UV -not remotely enough if you are trying to keep cool. My advise is if heat blockage is your goal tint your windows with either metallic or ceramic film, they are more expensive but well worth the extra money.

Thanks for both replies. Yes, we do know what the sun is in Seattle.
But we don't see it as much as, uh, Portland, so keep cool is not the issue. My baby's not naked in the car but face, arms, legs need protection too. 57% is not a high number, is it both UVA and UVB? Anyone else have official info from Honda or did more tests? |

But anyway...fact is, all automotive glass, even what most consider clear are coated. (not the same coatings as the windshield either) The coatings typically tinted. "Clear" auto glass is about 90%, meaning it allows 90% light transmission. Those coating though, block UV to protect your cars interior. My advice is that if your that concerned about you baby (I have two myself and see this as a non-issue) I would add clear or light tint known to block 100% of all UV light to sleep better at night. |

I saw somewhere (Honda manual?) that metallic film may interfere whith nav reception. So, I would choose ceramic in my case.

I'm looking into getting mine tinted soon. Any amount of interior heat I can reduce is always a good thing when you live where summer temps are in the high 90s to low 100s! |

If anyone know about a spec from honda or the window manufacturer, please let me know. Thanks. |

Read my prior post again, I mention that even clear auto glass has UV block coatings. If you dig deep enough, you'll find some SPF ratings for them, most are over 100. Windshields are well over 100+. |
