    3rd Gen EX-L Window Tint

The rear windows in the 3rd gen are tinted.

Offhand, does anyone know what tint percentage these are, and what color? With upcoming travel out west later this year, I want to see about possibly getting the two front driver's door windows tinted to match.

Also, how is the tint applied in the aftermarket? Is it some sort of film attached to the glass?

So the stock tint is no lighter than 35%, but could be 28-30%. The percentage is amount of light that is allowed back in. The color should be a grey(but could be bronze). Now you can go to a tint shop and have them color and tint percentage match the stock tint. It wont be perfect, but it should be close if the shop is a good one.

Tint application in the aftermarket is done in film form. The film has an adhesive that is applied to the window and the extra is trimmed off to match the window shape.

You want to get a ceramic type film as that will block the most heat, and will have a slight reflective finish. DO NOT get any dyed film. The cars with the old purple tint, that is dyed film. The cost should be around $150 for good quality film for the front 2 windows, but it can be done by some for less. I had the front 2 windows of my old F150 done for $70.

I used to tint windows back when I was in HS many years ago.

Thanks for the info. I only want it to look the same as the other windows (in tint percentage and color). I don't know if it is grey, or a warm-ish grey. It's possible the shops may already know the correct type.

Yeah they will. And different shops will have different variations of tint color, so you could call the dealer near you and find out what tint shop they use and contact them about trying to color and % match.

This is exactly what I was going to do on my crv
I didnt in the end but Id say one thing....to get them exact, id take it to the actual shop and get them to match the back ones..
tints can look different even if the descriptions is the same, Ive had that before.

I just got my tint done the other day. The fronts are slightly darker than the rear and I wasnt super concerned about it matching exact, just wanted it close and I think that was achieved. The car is much cooler now and not so hot when I get in at the end of the day. The percent on the windows is 28%, which means 28% light can get through which is legal in my state.

Nice! I do see the difference in the 2nd photo. I wonder if a 25% tint might work out. I wouldn't mind if it was just a slight bit lighter if they couldn't match it exactly.

Was it a warm grey tint? Just curious to know if they mentioned what color shade they used.

I have a custom fit windshield sun screen, so with the tint, that should really keep things cooler out west in the summer. Also, I like how a tint somewhat keeps the interior less visible when parked--out of sight, out of mind.

BTW, I like the look of Honda's wheels over just about all the other aftermarket wheels I have seen. I might get my kiddo a set of wheels for her 2002 Accord, only because those are some really poorly made OE wheels and the corrosion has already caused two flat tires. Provided the transmission lasts. I don't want to put too much money into it but OTOH, I don't want to replace a torn-up tire. $59/wheel plus mounting/balancing isn't such a bad deal.

So going to a 25% tint would be darker(than what I have). You would want a 30% if you are wanting to go lighter. They didnt tell me the specific color, but its typically bronze, grey or black(essentially with the really dark limo tint).

    EXACTLY!

I like the Honda wheels too, I'd really like to get something wider than 6.5in. So I've been looking at TL wheels and RSX wheels that are 17x7.5 or 17x8 or even going up to an 18x8. But everything that I have been looking at is OEM Acura wheels.

OK, I got it--maybe 30% or slightly more might be close enough.

I kind of wish I had gotten the Acura wheels from our TL before they hauled it to the scrap yard. (Got drowned in a flash flood.) But the diameter of the existing tires would have been too small for the '97 CR-V (which has those awful steel wheels, which rusted about 15 years ago). Well, that and GEICO would have underpaid us even more on the loss, had I swapped the wheels out. I agree--Acura does have some nice wheels.
