2010 CRV sometimes has slight metallic rattling sound while accelation

My 2010 Honda CRV has about 110,000 miles. I have noticed sometimes a slight metallic rattling sound underneath the vehicle in the front while the vehicle is accelerated. The engine light is not on. Is it due to the spark plugs or what problems look like? Thank you for your answer.

Welcome to the forum! It's really very difficult to diagnose a noise, even with a detailed and highly accurate description. It could be a little bit of detonation from running extra-low octane gas, or it could be a loose catalytic converter shield, or any of a lot of other issues. I would definitely find out more, before it gets worse. Let us know what you find.

How about if you rev it in neutral? Can you simulate the rattle?

I have my CRV examined by the dealer. They said the sound is crack coming from the moto because the engine oil is very low. After the change of the oil the crack sound is gone. Thus, if heard the crack sound from the moto while accelerating, check the engine oil level first.

Yes sir, that is not good. Never let your oil get more than a quart low. Sounds like you might be burning some oil. Keep a close eye on it. I think there might be a recall on piston rings for this year - you might check on that. I have read some posts here about folks who have had Honda replace them for free under the recall if your unit is included in it. IIRC the recall covers 2010 and 2011 models.

Welcome to the forum. Keep us posted on how it goes with this issue.

Can anyone explain why the less engine oil can cause the crack sound from the motor and how it will damage the motor?
