97-01 First Gen CR-V Projector Retrofitting Project

I've been cruising around with 8000K HIDs without proper projectors on my CR-V for awhile now and decided to do it right. I purchased a 2.5" BiXenon retrofit kit, an extra set of headlights, and G95P spray paint from eBay yesterday:

    1) 97-01 CRV L&R Headlight Assemblies ($56.25)
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/371008088164

    2) 2x 2.5" Bi-Xenon Hi/Lo HID Projector Retrofit Kit ($49.99)
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/281819303508

    3) Duplicolor Clover Green Pearl Spray Paint ($13.41)
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/140955047587

I found an old posting on HondaSUV and Honda-Tech forums on the first gen projector headlights: http://www.hondasuv.com/members/show...tor-Headlights
    http://honda-tech.com/honda-element-...rofit-3207926/

I'm hoping to customize my extra set of headlights with the retrofit projectors and color code the chrome to my exterior paint. If it comes out great, my CR-V headlights should be one of a kind like this below:

I'm not sure if I dig the all chrome look:

Once I get my project started, I'll post my experiences here...

Just received my headlights at noon via Fedex. It's branded as Vision Headlamps and was shipped from Chesapeake, VA. Not bad for $56.25 including shipping. I just finished the baking process to free the headlamp cover from the assemblies.

Baked them at 200 degrees fahrenheit for about 10-15mins

Removed the two torx screws that retain the chrome cover

Now I'm ready to paint these chrome covers to match the G95P exterior

I'll post pictures of the painted chrome covers tomorrow when my spray paint comes in. I'm not sure if i'll want to paint the inside chrome and projector shroud to either black or match it with the G95P outer cover...

Im in for watching this. You wont regret the final out come. Its like lasik for your car.

Did my 1st retro back in 2006 for my Prelude. Had plans for the last CR-V and even still have a brand new OEM Honda set of headlamps for an 05-06 in the boxes I had planned to use.
One bad night! <--- Click for a totalled CR-V. All but 2 pics fixed.

I figured if this comes out as planned, I'll be retrofitting the 05-06 for my parents and my brother. With the 97-01 headlights, I noticed with the projectors retrofitted is very centered and no modifications is needed for the projector shroud to fit. Now I just hope that the 05-06 is just this easy also...

BTW Honda4Life, how's that search going for another CR-V? My brother just got his 2006 SE with 68k miles. Just installed a Curt 13535 Class 3 hitch receiver on his car today.

Got my spray paint cans rattled up and already started the coating process. Sprayed about four coats every 20 mins, letting it dry now before applying one last coat of paint and at least three coats of clear...

Here's the cover after four coats of G95P paint

Now I'm deciding if this chrome should be left alone? Maybe Flat Black? Or Matching G95P?

I made the decision and painted the inside headlight shroud from chrome to flat black for a more stealthy look.

Finished three coats of acrylic clear on the five coats of G95P paint

Here's a sample look of the headlight assembly without the clear cover on

Can't wait to install the projector retrofits in when they arrive early next week! This is one project that I love, can't wait to see the final results on my car...

Yesterday I decided that my G95P paint finish was not looking great and I sanded the entire housing. The paint wasn't adhering to my standards, so I re-primered the housing and took out imperfections before re-painting. I chose to match the housing with the flat black on the shroud. I have ordered another set of headlights to paint them G95P at a later date.

Can't wait for my project retrofits to come in via UPS tomorrow. Almost finished with this first project, the second project should be a breeze since I learned how-to on this first set.

Side Note: I couldn't believe when I was going to repurchase the headlights from the vendor I listed above, they were sold out (they had 16 available when I received my set)... Seems like a lot of people purchased another set of headlights for themselves. They were the cheapest on the internet at $56.25 shipped...

Finally got my halo projectors in today, started the retrofitting process.

Baked them in the oven twice to ensure the butyl rubber sealed correctly.

Took me a couple hours to remove grill, bumper, old headlights, then install these custom projectors...

Still need some tweaking, I think my driver side projector has some stank eye... I'll have to check that out tomorrow. Here's how the beam pattern looks.

Overall I'm satisfied with the custom look, I'll need to re-align the headlight beams and see how they look at night.
