  1. Gen 1: 1996-2001 (UK 1995-2001) CR-V
I completed the valve adjustment but now there's a tapping or a clicking sound. Did I make things worse or can I do something about it? Also I watched a YouTube video on how to fix the oil dip stick tube. Unfortunately I noticed it's loose again. Can I use some kind of liquid metal to weld...
  2. Gen 1: 1996-2001 (UK 1995-2001) CR-V
I'm attempting to do a valve adjustment and I've noticed the intake and exhaust "UP MARKS" do not line up exactly. Can I continue or should I do something else first. Does the car/engine have to be perfectly level? Also, I didn't see anything that looks like a gasket when I removed the cover.
  3. Gen 1: 1996-2001 (UK 1995-2001) CR-V
So I checked my valves, all the exhausts were a bit too tight to comfortable get the .007 guage in (fit with force). Adjusted them a tiny bit looser (easy.007, forcably with .008) and put the cover back on. I did this in firing order with the cams turned to their respective positions each time...
  4. Gen 2: 2002-2006 (UK 2002-2007) CR-V
I watched a few YouTube videos on adjusting my valves on my 2006 CRV and after adjusting accordingly noticed quite a bit of "Chatter" at the valve train. Not sure if that is normal, as "Eric the Car guy" adjusted a HONDA Element (same engine) and his had 'chatter' as well. Does anyone know if...
  5. Gen 2: 2002-2006 (UK 2002-2007) CR-V
Hi, I just got Honda to do a valve adjustment and valve cover gasket replacement and I must say, I do feel a difference. Sadly they did not provide me with the spec sheet however they did tell me that all my valves were out of spec (mainly too tight), which made them quiet. I currently have...
  6. Gen 1: 1996-2001 (UK 1995-2001) CR-V
Hi I just bought a 99 CRV with 125k. It had codes p1399 p0300 p0301 p0302. I changed the plugs, wires, dis cap/rotor, and did a valve adjustment to spec. Also changed out valve cover gasket. I turned it on, all check engine lights went off, idled great, and drove great. After about a couple...
  7. Performance Modifications
I had my valves adjusted Monday as well as valve cover gasket replaced. Mechanics didn't say anything about the engine leaking. By Tuesday I was smelling hot chemical during my evening drive, when idle at stoplights. Thought it might have been the fixative they used on the VCG or maybe a dribble...
  8. Greetings & Introductions
Hello all, Stephen here. I've read these forums for a long time, and have learned much. Shadetree mechanic and I've finally gotten around to joining. 9. Gen 1: 1996-2001 (UK 1995-2001) CR-V
Hey, I just aquired a 1999 CRV with 80K miles on it.. I do a lot of stuff of my own, but i feel that a Honda Dealer would be a better fit for this type of work. Looking to see what you all recommend the cost should be for Honda Dealer: -Valve Adjustment and seal replacement. (head gasket and...
