1999 CRV brake upgrade

7748 Views 4 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  rlstabber
My 1999 CRV just celebrated its 20th anniversary.
As a gift I would like to replace the ream drums with discs. Is there a kit or a similar honda that I could get parts from and upgrade.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks

I did this on a previous Jeep, worked out great since it used Ford Exploder parts that were identical OEM fit. You might try some YouTube searching to see if this is possible - seems like I may have seen it somewhere in there. There are a lot of CR-V/Civic cross-platform similarities.
Moved to the Gen1 area.

I'm not aware of any kit.

As much as we appreciate your 'gift' to your CR-V, what you propose isn't really worth it in terms of brake performance on an otherwise 'stock' car.

You are better off doing regular (yearly) brake shoe adjustments, and lubrication of the shoe-to-backing-plate contact area.

You would be surprised how well the car stops just from doing this little bit of maintenance, as it gets those rear brakes to do their share of stopping. A friend actually COMPLAINED that his '04 Civic 'stopped too well' after I optimized his rear drum action.

There are no kits available from honda, acura, or any aftermarket manufacturer make any disc conversion kits for the 1st Gen CRV. However, the Acura Integra 5 lug rear hubs can be swapped onto the CRV with relative ease, the only issue lies with the caliper bracket. You would need to make one yourself or find a metal cutting shop that could make one for you.

Search facebook CRV pages, there is a guy named Greg Rawls who makes brackets for a disc swap. He has the plates and a parts list and a bunch of people have already done this swap.
