While I was a Honda tech for years I never dabbled in performance. I always liked the reliability of OEM and the huge dollars spent on research and development. Now having decided to keep my 1999 CRV as a toy/grocery getter, I'm looking for more power out of the engine and ideally another transmission with maybe another gear or two for more reasonable revs on the highway. A sleeper combination that I can play with and surprise a few people on occasion. Can someone point me in the right direction?

The best thing to do is do a B20 Vtec. Depending on the milage of your Crv you might want to pick up a B20 imported from Japan. You can find them for $400-$500 and they are all around the 50,000 mile range. The find a Vtec head (b16 or B18). Combine the two and an easy 200 hp to the wheels. There are other supporting things that need to be done like ECU and running a wire for the Vtec so it isn't for the novice. There is a huge amount of info about this combo on sites like Honda tech. I hope this helps some.
Yes the Honda tech. Does help, as I stated I always loved stock application. Dependable. Now looking for a little fun, I know nothing much of the after market and trends. I did know of the B 20 and vtec head. Next is seeing if anyone has run a more modern trans. In one of these or if they would even fit to the block. Honda tech here I come!
