Hello:

I have read over the last few years that the Generation 1 CRVs had some valve burning problems, but I learned this well into my car's life.

I just treated the B20 CRV engine as I would any car engine, that is, with occasional valve clearance checks and adjustments if necessary.

So here is the valve clearance history of my 1999 CRV. It'll take some effort to decipher the attached table, but pretend that your looking at the engine from the driver's seat and it'll hopefully make sense.

The only time I ever had to adjust clearance was at 66139 km when I reduced the clearances on both exhaust valves for number 2 cylinder. Took them from 10 and 9 thou to 7 and 7 thou.

My lead-foot wife drives this car, and you can believe that it's not been babied!!

I have a 1997 with B20B engine. The maintence sektion in the manual says check valves every 20000km (12500 miles)

The engine dont have valve burning problems if we follow the maintence schedule
