Sorry what I meant was before the old one was taken out it's better to mark the position of the distributor in relation to the head. So this way you wont need to set the base timing again. Try to install the old one then see if it fires up. You'll need to look at the timing marks in front of the cam cover & at the back of the pulley. I believe it's the white mark. You'll need a timing light to do this. Was the spark blue or Orange? What plugs did you use? What brand? What brand of New Distributor did you bought? I have seen many Aftermarket distributor that's poor quality.
