This assumes you have an automatic transmission...

Get the automatic trans fluid from a Honda dealer! The newest formulation (for those with bad memories :giggle: ) is DW-1.
Aftermarket fluids (Valvoline has a good rep, don't know if you can get that in your locality) work for a while but you will be replacing it more often.

If you are having a shifting issue, 3 drain & fills will replace over 90% of the fluid. If you are just replacing it as Good Practice (recommended every 30,000 miles or 50K km) a single D&F will keep the friction additives 'fresh'.

If you get Sticker Shock from the cost of DW-1 , print a price sheet from an online Honda dealer and bring it to your local dealer. They will probably reduce the purchase price a bit.

@Steve747 Refering to an automatic transmission, If you still have an ownsers manual, it will tell you to use Honda ATF-Z-1. This oil has since been upgraded to Honda ATF-DW1.
Changing tranny oil in these is very easy an recommended to do so thoroughly using a drain/fill procedure a total of 4 times.
I would recommend changing the filter as well.
I have attached 2 photos from my 2005 owners manual (pgs. 187 & 188) and this YouTube link that is found to be very helpful but does not actually do the 4th drain/fill as described in the manual. (Note, the YouTube procedure is the same even though they are using a Honda Element.)

If you have a manual transmission, the YouTube video will not help you. Use Honda-MTF (Manual Transmission Fluid) and follow the procedure in the photo of page 188.

Just as important: get a quote on a replacement transmission, then compare that to the cost of the 3x drain-fill using DW-1. 😅
