My 2008 2.2 diesel has done about 70000 miles. Regularly serviced and generally well looked after.
Last year just before the service the oil pressure light came on while I was on a long run, I stopped straight away, checked the oil, it was nearly full, (yes i know that its oil pressure not oil level that is indicated). I decided to risk starting the engine again, and was surprised that the light was not on. It stayed off until I got home. This happened once more, After the service there was no recurrence until today - a year later. The light came on while I was driving on the motorway. I stopped, turned off the engine, turned it back on and there was no light.
I drove 100 miles back home with no problem.

It seems to me that the issue must be related to a sensor, rather than a real oil pressure problem. Can anyone help - where is the sensor that may need replacing?

Not sure on sensor location. But I would put a gauge on it and make sure the oil pressure is good before assuming it's just a sensor problem.
