Hello everyone so I recently got a 3rd gen with 85k miles
After filling up the tank twice and dividing it by the gallons I'm getting a little over 15 mpg.
I've gotten new tires and new shocks and struts those were both worn out. New Plugs as well as cleaned the throttle body and the MAF sensor. I've replaced both cabin and intake filter. Car sounds normal when running and accelerating. I do get a slight jolt after the car decreases speed from 1st.

I'd appreciate any insight and help from anyone thanks!

Hello everyone thank you for your responses!
So I forgot what code it was but I did just get one that had to do with the throttle body after i cleaned it there are no lights on the dash

This is 99% city right now but even then i feel it is extremely low.
I appreciate any help thank you

Also, new tires can result in up to 20% lower MPG. Winter-blend gasoline can increase fuel consumption. So can idling to warm up the car in cold weather.

Historcal note: A Polar Vortex has created VERY cold weather across the USA as I type this.
How can new tires result in milage loss? Curious.

The problem existed before I changed the tires and struts i thought that would relieve some of the issue as the struts and tires were pretty much done.
It was a bouncy house on wheels when driving bumpy roads.

Thanks.

If you are doing 99% city driving, you won't get much more than 15-16 mpg on a 2008. Especially during winter fuel season. I generally got a life time average of 16mpg on my 2008 AWD (almost all city driving like you). I have an average foot on the pedal, and if I really went soft on the accelerator I found I could eek it up to 18mpg on summery fuel blends. But I have better things to do with my time than nurse a CRV for maximum fuel economy, so I just accepted 16 as my average in almost al city driving. A lot of short trips with hours in between hurts fuel economy too.. as the engine is at it's optimal fuel economy only when it is fully warmed up.

They are spec for 20 city, but those are under ideal lab conditions (to provide a consistent test setup and measure to compare vehicles mpg side by side). So somewhere in the 15-18mpg for almost exclusive city driving is about all you can expect. They suck a lot of fuel from constantly facing stop lights and then accelerating from a stop to driving speed. Especially if you live somewhere where it looks like the city went out of it's way to insure no stop lights are in sync so you spend time waiting, then again, then again.
Yeah that's what I've been told and idk I'm starting to believe it but it just seems so low i see people on here who get 18-20 city but I guess depend on the type of city driving they do.

When I first got my 2010 I was getting 17ish MPG but went up to 22-23mpg after replacing my front and rear calipers as both were sticking. I would check to see if your front calipers are sticking for sure as they are going to be the majority of the issue.
I was thinking about get that checked. Did you have any symptoms directly with the calipers? Guess i can only get them checked at the shop that's probably the next thing I'll do I was thinking of getting the injectors cleaned seeing if that would help to some degree.

Thank you guys for all your replies they're truly appreciated

Everyone thank you for all your replies
I mean, yeah, it felt like I was driving around with the brakes on. If they are sticking real bad you can usually get out after a short drive and feel the wheels and they will be warm to the touch.
I actually did this and both th front ones kinda hot i could put my hand up against them for a while. I did have my tires and struts changed could they have noticed that during that process? I'll still take it in anyways.
I have a 2009 4WD with 105k km. Around town mine also gets around 14 mpg. I think it´s normal for city driving. Have also done a complete tuneup, including new pads front and rear. Just gotta live with it.
Yeah that's what I'm starting to see i just find it odd but I'm also envious when I read others mpg here haha I'll keep trying some things and see if it goes up . Next is probably fuel injectors getting cleaned.

Sticking brake calipers could cause a steering vibration if a front one is problematic.

The easiest way to verify is to feel the wheel near the center after a gentle drive (no hard braking). Each side should be about the same temperature. If you have a contactless infrared thermometer you could compare that way, too. They are not that expensive but hardly needed just as a check.

Fronts will be warmer than rears as a rule, since the front brakes do most of the work.
The steering wheel doesn't vibrate really at all anymore but I have noticed that now even after getting an alignment the car veers to the left
Really need to get the calipers checked.
Thank you all once again much appreciated.
