Hi everyone,
We are the owners of a 2010 Honda CRV with 80,000 miles on it. Bought it used from the local Honda dealership about 3 years ago. Last week I noticed a buzzing/humming sound almost from underneath the car, the oil light blinking on and off and the car just not seeming right. Since I work in the city, hubby and I switched cars, so if I did indeed break down, I was not stranded in midtown. It went to the Honda dealership today, where it's been serviced since we bought it. They said the car had no oil at all (???). They did an entire oil change, and on the invoice, stated the car was in 'Round 1' of the oil consumption test.
I have read about the 2010 Hondas excessive oil consumption on a few different threads. It seems to be a systemic problem. On the invoice after the oil change, it was noted that we should return at 81,000 miles to check the oil, and that we should check the oil every time we put gas in the car. I outright laughed. That will never happen. We do plan on checking the oil, I just found it funny anyone would ever write that as a strategy for dealing with a problem.
Now, after reading everyone's experience, I worry about the pistons and of course, the catalytic converter too. We seem to out of the extended warranty that Honda granted. We are out of the 8 years, while we have not hit the 125,000 mile mark.
Any advice on what to do? I feel like I am stuck with a car that will eventually have many problems. Here I thought we were buying a great Honda CRV. We also have a 2013 Honda CRV which does not seem to have these problem.
Thanks.
