… and that we should check the oil every time we put gas in the car. I outright laughed. That will never happen. We do plan on checking the oil, I just found it funny anyone would ever write that as a strategy for dealing with a problem.

How about this? Reword the statement to read - Failure to check the oil as specified may cost you $10,000.00. Is it still funny? Then CHECK THE OIL! I would check it every time you get in the car. Carry extra oil. Any time your oil light comes on you must shut the engine off immediately and not start it again until the oil is refilled.

This is a very serious situation, one that can quite easily completely destroy the engine. The damage can occur within just a couple of minutes. That engine can run without oil about as well as your body can function without blood.
