Gen2 rear wheel bearings are known to fail. I had bad front bearings on our 99 Acura TL, too.

Excessive loads are not always the failure mode. Our '06 carried more than 600 LBs in its cargo area for 150K miles without a wheel bearing failure. Side-loading from curves can be a factor, especially if you drive on bumpy or poorly maintained roads.
