Just bought this car and soon after noticed that the wiper linkage sounded clanky. Now today the wipers quit working completely in the down position. Anyone have any suggestions on how to disassemble the cowl to look on there or what may have happened?

First, make sure that the splines on the arms are not stripped. (This could have happened if a previous owner operated the wipers when ice stuck them to the glass!) The arm's splines strip first, so the arms are what you would replace.

If you still need to investigate the wiper motor and linkages, here's how: (Most models of V (and other Hondas) are similar.)

Remove wiper arms (you may need a small puller).

Remove plastic cowl surround

Inspect linkages. Repair as necessary.

Usually, the plastic bushings on the ends of the actuation rods are what fails. On the models I am familiar with, you cannot get just the bushings, you need to purchase the entire rod. Luckily, they are not too expensive. There are two, marked A and B.

Post back with your findings.
