Hello!!!!
Bought in february a cr v with 36.000 KM....

I'm 2nd owner and lady who used it from new, drove it very few times since July 17....there was an oil change at 31.990 and battery replaced in that date (sticker i found)

This year I only made short trips because of my newborn child to doctor.

Now at 40.500 km i replaced coolant...ATF fluid and general inspection. My mechanic checked the belt and said it was cracked and must be replaced.
The main problem he detected was the tensioner was noisy...making a grinding sound (bearings damaged for lack of use?????)
How can it die so soon???

The sound was almost unaudible...he used an esthetoscope

Thanks

Is it timing Belt or Chain???????

Also...is the lower portion of chain bathed in oil?? May be the bearings damaged?????

Thanks

The 2.4L engine has a timing chain. But driving the car with a low oil supply will cause it to stretch. As will neglecting routine oil changes.

I'm sure you will have some teething issues as above when you start using the car more. But within a few months, it will be fine.
