First, good morning.

I've noticed that my new 2018 Touring will turn the auto headlights function on earlier than I would like.

So, reading the manual I see that this should be something that I can control. BUT the controls are not available in the settings, even thought the manual says they should be.

Please see the attached picture. (the forum is showing the picture upside down even though its right side up on my pc )

Yes, the car was running when I took this so all controls should be available.

Has anyone else seen this OR know of a fix? What am I doing wrong?

Strange. You should be getting the auto light sensitivity control option. On my 2017 Touring, I do have that option and have used it.

I don't recall having to turn on any "advanced" options setting in the menu, but that was almost a year ago for my 2017. My car did have the battery reset done, for me, that cleared up a few issues. I would think the 2018 would not still need this however.

Step 1. Reboot the head unit by holding down power. Don't turn off car until done.

Step 2 if step 1 doesn't work. Remove negative terminal from battery for 30 seconds and plug back in. Your dash will go haywire for a minute or so on your first drive. This has solved a lot of little electronic glitches on the 2017. There's some that would rather take it to a dealer than do this so that if the problem is intermittent, they can start documenting it. I am not one of those people :)

Step 3. Dealer

Got 2018 EXL put switch in auto pull back on switch one time turns on and off
Removing the battery cable will work but causes a MAJOR upset to many systems and it takes some driving for them all to reset.

Honda America issued a better fix for this: ATS 170208 Feb. 2017

1. Turn the ignition to OFF.

2. Remove the #18 BACKUP (10A) fuse from the under-hood fuse/relay box.

3. Wait a few minutes, then install the fuse.

That will restore all the headlight options on the screen. If you have issues with your rain-sensing wipers and fog lights the above procedure will resolve those as well.

See page 380 in the big owners manual. While the vehicle is at a complete stop with the power mode ON, select HOME, and SETTINGS. Then select the following sequence: System/Vehicle/Lighting Setup/Auto Light Sensitivity. Finally choose the sensitivity you desire. Not available on the LX model.

Indeed, marty1, pulling fuse 18 fixed the issue entirely! What an approachable and easy fix. Easily saved half a day and a trip to the dealer and a lot of heartache.

Thank you for the link to the solution and the original post. Sometimes a forum isn't the easiest way of locating the information you're after, or the best means of information dissemination. I will do better searching next time!

Thank you again for your assistance, it's the biggest reason why I will continue to engage with this community. Hopefully this will help someone else in the same position. It's really crazy that both Honda AND the dealers would allow this to occur. especially since it's called out so plainly in the pre-delivery inspection. C'mon Honda, sheesh!

Is this option also available on the EX-L models? I have the auto high beam on but wasn't aware of any sensitivity settings.
There is no sensitivity setting for the auto high beam function.

The "Auto Light Sensitivity" setting adjusts when the headlights and other exterior lights switch on and off automatically according to the outside brightness. For details see page 178 of the 2018 Owner's Manual.

Astern, thanks for the confirmation. In fairness to you the solution was hard to find as it was in a high beam thread and you weren't having a high beam problem.
I've noticed several people in this forum have had no end of grief with their rain-sensing wipers and/or auto high beams. The dealer checks out the sensors and says everything is ok and nothing can be done. All that's required is a reboot of these systems, but it appears many dealers are not aware of Honda's bulletin. Some owners in frustration temporarily disconnected the battery to solve it. What's tricky is that the systems don't fail completely; they work but improperly. This issue has been around since early 2017, so like you I'm surprised it's happening on 2018 models.

Your help and input on this page was the bomb! Went out in the rain to the garage and pulled the #18 fuse, and fixed ALL my headlight problems! Wish life problems could be fixed as easily as pulling an fuse and reinserting! Lol.

The car should never have these problem IF the dealer techs set the car up properly. Fuse 18 is the one that is mentioned in the dealer instructions on initial set-up. Of course one of the problems in the industry (not just Honda) is that some dealers have these low skilled, low paid, inexperienced people doing new car prep. The service advisers figure they will put their good guys on cars with problems and since the new cars coming in should be OK anyway they just throw cheap help at them.

I had to take my 2017 back in when I got it because the guy who did the prep didn't do the fuse 18 setup and left half the screws out of the mud flaps. The jerk "mechanic" got upset because I had the nerve to bring the car back in and ask for ALL the screws to be installed on the mud flaps. How dare a customer actually expect to get what he paid for!! Says a lot about some of the dumbo's dealers have on their staff.
