2019 CRV Seats/Venting

Hi, I just gave back my 2016 CRV which loved and made the stupid mistake of not buying. Instead I got the new 2019 CRV and have had constant upper back pain for the entire 6 weeks I've had it. I'm in agony and have already tried 2 different (and expensive back pads) both of which couldn't help. Literally every time I stop at a red light I find myself readjusting the seats and wiggling to try and get comfortable. I'm about to sell my car at huge loss.
Anyone else experience this? Would love some ideas.
I also just hate the new lumpy shape of the CRV which has blindspots and is just annoying to see the bumps in the side view mirrors. General venting. I hate my new car!

The EX I didn’t get leather cause it’s so hot where I live it gets hot and sticky.
Also how absurd is a company to move the backup camera from dead center to the side? The reverse guidelines are all off (acting as though it’s from centered vision) and where I live I’m constantly backing into spots in garages. Do you think I’d be insane to trade it in back for a gently used 2016? Not being comfortable in my car is driving me insane and I live in a real driving city.

Only you can decide as to keep or replace, but I agree that driving comfort is an important factor in any vehicle.

I agree with you about leather being a problem in warm climates (I live in a warm part of California in summer) but I personally like the durability of leather seats over cloth.. so I just put a set of good quality sheepskin covers on my seats first thing when I bring a new vehicle home and that solves the heat issue entirely for me.

An EX comes with the 8-way power adjust drivers seat. I drive a Touring, but I believe the driver seats are the same (Touring adds power adjust to the passenger seat as well). I have a very old back injury and so I too am sensitive to seat design and comfort.. and other then the Lumbar support being a bit weak in the gen5 power seats (I have to set it almost to max for my needs), all the other adjustments are great and it took me a couple of drives and some setting adjustments to get the seat where it was comfortable for me on both long and short rides.

If it were me, I would do more adjustment and testing of settings on the power seat adjustments, before throwing in the towel.

Since you've tried different back pads and they didn't help, another thing to try is to add seat bottom pad. This would raise you up an inch or two and your back muscles would press on a different portion of the curved seat.
You would lower your seat by the same amout so you're at the same driving height as before the pad.
I just got a used 2016 LX and my back would ache after 30 minutes. A basic seat, no lumbar adjustment. I'm very short, 5' 3". I got a thick foam/gel car seat cushion from Costco to help reduce the vibrations I felt through the seat. It helped but a side benefit was my back no longer ached. You could even adjust the steering wheel height/depth in case you're leaning forward/backward differently compared to your previous 2016 model driving position. It maybe worth a shot before giving up on your car.

I would not remove them, as they are there for whiplash safety for rear seat passengers.

They can be removed of course. But I'm not sure that will improve rear window visibility much. One of the downfalls to Compact SUVs (across the various brands) is that they tend to have small rear windows with limited visibility. This would be a case where rear camera view on demand would be a plus in the CRV... which you can do if you install the most recent version of HondaHack on your Head Unit, as I understand it.

You’re not the only one, I’m a petite girl and the headrests jutted up so high it was distracting (the ‘16 crv has an option to flip them down but even up they’re not as invasive) I couldn’t stand the new 19 crv and took it back to my dealership, and bought back a used ‘16 crv. I don’t care that the new crv sells so well, I speak to so many people who arent happy with it that the numbers are only half the story.

The drivers seat in my 2019 makes my back sore. I’m on the talk side, so maybe that’s the problem. I really regret buying the car. I’ll try to hold onto to it for a couple of years, and then sell it. I had two different Honda Accords that were great cars, but the first was from the 80’s, and the second the 90’s. I think I’ll stay away from Hondas moving forward. I made a huge mistake buying this car. I am very unhappy with this vehicle.

I was surprised to find that the Lumbar support was adjustable Up and Down in addition to the normal front/back. I found this allowed me to get the Lumbar support in the best location for my back. Every other car I have owned only allowed be to adjust the firmness (front/back) of the lumbar support. I own a 2019 CR-V EX-L. It looks like the EX should have the same adjustment.
