Sorry to hear about your rear differential problem. Glad it was under warranty!
I also have a 2020 Hybrid CR-V. FWIW, I have not not had rear differenital problems. I changed the rear differential fluid at about 15k when it came up on the Maintenance Minder (MM). Information on that here:
Background info: My understanding is that all Hybrid CR-Vs have AWD, and so all Hybrid CR-Vs have a rear differential. It is also my understanding that the Hybrid rear differential is the same as the rear differential on AWD non-hybrid (ICE) CR-Vs. It is also my understanding that MM calling for an initial change of rear differential fluid in the 15-20k mile range is typical on all AWD CR-Vs (both Hybrid and ICE).

My MM asked for rear diff fluid change (B236) for the first time just recently, 8 years/60K miles in. I had already had it changed last year.

I guess the reason I never heard of it is it doesn't seem to be available in Florida where I live as Florida is not listed in the drop-down Menu.
Yeah, Florida does not allow out of state purchase of HondaCare. These extended warranties are most often treated as "insurance" so they fall under your states insurance regulation and laws.

You can still purchase HondaCare, it's just that it must be from a FL dealership. The price is likely retail though, so it's a bit steeper value proposition for an owner to assess for their use/non-use.

There will never be agreement in this forum about the value of HondaCare, because different owners have different willingness to risk open ended costs of repair of their vehicle. So it is always an individual decision. I mention it in threads like this to help insure owners (like yourself) know it is an option and it may very well more than pay for itself over the life of your vehicle. Worst case it fixes your total cost of repairs for the effective life of your vehicle. If not this time around, it is still a consideration when you purchase your next vehicle.

-Some folks like to roll the dice and take their chances, only to come back and rant and complain later when they have a multi-thousand dollar out of warranty repair they are facing.

-Some folks have a CRV that literally will never present them with an expensive out of warranty repair, but as the vehicles become more and more complex, this becomes less likely in reality.

-Some folks only keep their vehicles for 3-4 years, so an extended policy makes no sense for them.

- Some folks, like myself, shunned extended warranties for many years, but since 2013 I slap a HondaCare policy on my Hondas when I buy them. While I can easily pay for the cost of any out of warranty repair, my assessment is that having a fixed cost of ownership gives more peace of mind than an open ended cost basis model of no extended warranty. Since I keep my vehicles, on average for 8-10 years, I prefer the peace of mind in knowing that if I were to encounter an expensive random failure, Honda will perform the repair at no additional cost to me. Given most significant repairs run into the thousands of dollars these days, the value proposition is stronger now days for opting an extended HondaCare policy.

Avoid 3rd party extended warranties like the plague though. Many are scams, and most are much more expensive than HondaCare.

The MM may be programmed differently in different regions.

The car does not have a transmission so no transmission fluid change. Differential fluid change is at 120,000 miles but I'm reading that other people have advised to do it sooner. Seems a gear tooth broke off so not a fluid issue.
My 1st rear diff fluid change was part of the 20k mile service. B16 is the maintenance code. VERY odd.

Yes, I have mentioned it before, European market MM seems to be much looser.
What makes it more frustrating is the owner's manual just says to refer to the MM scheduled maintenance. My MM has now been reset twice resulting in the loss of reminders.

Don't worry about it. Your differential had a defective part. Failures are rare and the diff/fluid is extremely durable.

So whenever your MM pings it's well within the safe time window. We get plenty of snow and my rear diff has gotten a lot of work done, still the MM was fine with it for 8 years.

I just got a phone call from Honda. My car has been fixed and I can pick it up tomorrow morning. Doing a happy dance. I’m actually amazed they got the parts this quickly.

I grew up in a car family with a mechanic for a father. One of my first cars was a 1973 Datsun 240 Z stick shift. My graduation present, a brand new car. It was a fun POS that was forever breaking down. No cell phones back then and often no payphones within miles. The car had two built-in toolboxes along with instructions and how to adjust the valves every 12,000 miles and all kinds of other maintenance procedures. Dad was sure to pack my car with lots of tools and I learned how to fix cars. You either fixed your car or you walked for miles. The last car I worked on was my1998 stick corvette that I bought new in 1997. Another very fun POS and a money pit. I traded it in along with a Honda Accord hybrid for the CRV.

I really like this CRV
I tend to keep cars for a long time so I'm really diligent about maintenance and I do much of my own maintenance. I plan on doing my own differential oil changes My tire shop is both annoyed and amazed that I plug my own tires. Tire shop patching is free but it involves driving to the tire shop and waiting. Takes me less than 20 minutes to plug a tire and be back on the road.

Got my car back this morning. Asked the service tech if the differential is different in the hybrid and nonhybrid and he says exact same differential.

Would have cost $2800 to do out of warranty.

Mentioned that I was very surprised that they were able to do it so quickly with all the part shortages. He showed me a Honda Civic with 317 miles that has been there for over two months waiting for a circuit board. So I guess I'm very lucky to get it back so quickly.
