Hi there everyone!

When trying to schedule an oil change and rotation online with my dealership, I got a red banner saying that the vehicle has an active recall. When clicking to read more, I only get what is included in the below screenshot. Googling this has turned up no results, but would indicate that it is related to the electric power steering gearbox.

Has anyone seen this with their Hybrids as of yet? We didn't receive a mailer and when searching on the Honda recall lookup site, it doesn't come back with anything for our VIN (which is listed on the dealership service reservation site).

This is all over Google. I don't see anything regarding the one you mention.

Yeah, when I do the generic year and model search on the Honda website I only come back with the half shaft joints and the center rear seat belt.

I ended up calling the dealership and they said it's about a 4 hour job (so I'm assuming its a steering rack replacement?) but they don't have any loaners and we'd have to pay out of pocket for a rental if we chose to drop it off. Something to think about...

You do understand not all models from a specific year are included in a recall. If your VIN didn't show a recall, it's likely your car is not in the lot of those produced at a specific time that requires it.

Absolutely understand that. I was a GM service tech for about 6 years.
While the Honda website doesn’t show any applicable recalls for my VIN, two Honda dealer service departments told me that this recall applies to my vehicle. We have an appointment Thursday to have it addressed.

Well, we just picked up the CR-V from the dealership.
Two wheels damaged (scratched/gouged) and now a high pitch whine from the front end under load. It seems to get louder as engine RPMs increase.

Got a call back from the service manager: we’re heading back to drop it off and pick up another loaner vehicle. Wish me luck!

Where "alleged" recalls are concerned, I personally always go directly to the NHTSA recall page and enter my VIN.

Sometimes there may be a short delay on a brand new recall, but in my experience NHTSA is the best place to check on any open recalls on your vehicle. owners.honda.com should also be in relative sync with NHTSA and you can enter your VIN there and if there is an open recall it will pop an alert as well.

Also, some OBDII readers keep an active lookup table of open recalls vs VIN and when you run a scan they will pop an alert about an open recall.

Yeah, I checked there too and it didn’t come back with anything. However, the service department insisted that the vehicle needed to have the electronic power steering gearbox replaced due to a recall. He explained that they had to drop the front cradle and replace what is essentially the steering rack.

Hopefully they are able to determine the cause of that whine noise. It almost sounded like it was sucking air- I’m wondering if maybe a gasket wasn’t replaced in the exhaust (not sure if it had to be disconnected to get the cradle down) as it did increase in volume as RPMs increased.

Hopefully we hear back by the end of the day - this HR-V Sport is a bit lacking in comparison to the CR-V :)

Yeah I am sure they would fix it during new builds instead of keeping on sending them out like that and having to keep recalling them.

Final update - turns out the boot around the steering shaft wasn’t seated fully into position which was allowing air to pass by and into the cabin, hence the unusual noise. They seated the boot back into place and the noise is gone. We have two replacement wheels on order to take care of the damage that was done during rotation.

However, we got home and the low tire pressure message came on. Determined that pressures were fine, but the TPMS calibration wasn’t completed post rotation - easy fix.

However, we can’t get the little HondaLink message notification to disappear from the top bar of the radio display. I’ve swiped down, and looked for the X to clear messages much like the head unit in my ‘18 Civic Touring, but this doesn’t seem to have that option. I’ve also cleared the cache of the TelematicApp from the Android settings - still no dice. Does anyone possibly know?

Yup, I've heard this song before -- The title is ---- We don't have time to do it right the first time but plenty of time to do it twice. Wish you luck.

Can you post a picture of the notification?
This is what shows up at the top of the screen.

When swiping down on the top bar, it expands.

I've tried swiping away to clear, tried clearing the message from the HondaLink app on the radio and on my phone. I've also tried clearing the cache for the app 'TelematicApp' from the Android settings as I've seen others mention. The low tire pressure light is no longer on in the dash and I did complete the TPMS Calibration from the Vehicle menu within the settings (after ensuring that the tires were all set to the correct pressures). I also spent about 30 minutes on the phone with HondaLink support thinking they may have a process they could walk me through - no such luck.

Turns out I misspoke regarding this same message in my '18 Civic - I remember going through hoops to clear the message on that vehicle too when the TPMS light came on and, for the life of me, I can't remember what ended up clearing it out.

It's not the end of the world by any means, but just something that catches my eye every time I get in the car now.

Is that a Telematic App notification? I have never seen that before. Not sure why you think it is a HondaLink notification.

If I open the HondaLink app on the radio itself, it shows up in the Vehicle section. It's also appearing on the HondaLink iPhone app - that same 'low tire pressure' notification. The HondaLink app (both on the radio and phone) don't give me an option to acknowledge it or clear it unfortunately.

When my ACC failed, I remember the message stayed there for a while after the fault cleared. I can't remember if the message went away on its own or if the dealer cleared it when they did the repair.

Probably no help, but did you try logging into the owners website to close it? Honda Owners Site | Tips, Tools & Benefits for Honda Owners

Just to round this out: When we started the CR-V this morning the message was gone. (y)

In regard to the recall: When we picked up the vehicle, there was a high pitched whistling/whining noise that was most noticeable at highway speeds. Turns out the rubber boot around the intermediate steering shaft was not aligned properly allowing air to pass through into the cabin. This was reseated and resolved the noise issue. This isn't something that is directly related to the recall, but a result of the tech missing this when reassembling the vehicle. Not the end of the world, but this information may help someone in the future if they run into a similar situation after having the recall completed.

Hello all, yes i also got that recall when I checked for my Oil Change. But I did it and now I'm hearing weird noises coming for the engine and chassis. It is like weird clicks and creaking noise. It happens a lot during stop and go. I call the service dept and schedule to get it checked a week later. They performed the check and then called and said that my Steering staff column looked to been replaced improperly and asked me where did I perform this job at. I said I got my 2022 Hybrid CRV in 12/21 and haven't did anything except oil change. I said that I brought it in to your dealership for the recall and after that it was making weird noises. Then Service Rep said the noises and steering staff column had nothing to do with the recall and it was something that happened to my car. This confused the heck out of me since the car was running fine since I had it and it was running quietly besides the "humming' noise from the Hybrid system. Once they did the recall repair and when I picked up the car I heard the noises right away. But the recall was done on 8/11 and i brought it back in on 8/29 for the noise issue. So basically Service Rep said don't worry but we fixed everything and it is fine now. But it was fine for several days but today 8/31 i started to hear noises again. I have contacted the Service Rep again today and left him a Voicemail but he hasn't called me back yet. I'm not too savvy on cars but wasn't the recall to replace gearbox in steering column? He said I did some sort of repair outside of Honda dealership , where the shop didn't proper install it back and my steering column was actually hitting my transmission. I so confused by all this and was hoping someone here could shed some light on this subject... This is my first Hybrid (it doesn't really save me that much gas) but i have owned CRV since 2008. Thank you for your help and information
