I'm new here to this forum but not to the world of automotive work and this problem I have has me stumped! My V started to vibrate or shake around 27-30 mph. I noticed when I put it in neutral it stops, it will continue to do it when I take it out of overdrive and put it into D, but it goes away when I put it into 2nd. I had a tranny guy tell me the tranny needs rebuilt, but thats a tranny guy talking. I have not changed the fluid in the tranny and the V has 215,000 on it. Should I change the fluid or should I start looking for a new tranny? Any help here would be great!

Do you know exactly where the sound is coming from?
Based on the research I've done with this site and another (thanks to all the forum member that have contributed the info), because I have the exact same problem, it could be a few small things.
So before you start shelling out the dough, try and figure out where it's coming from and hopefully you could find a few small things to correct the problem.

As for the main vibration, The Vibration Is Normal. The vibration is related to the angle of the driveshafts and the torque being applied to them. All CR-Vs share this characteristic.http://www.in.honda.com/Rjanisis/pubs/SN/a000100.PDF

If you are hearing weird rattling sounds, there are a few things you can do:

Apply foam tape to the back of your license plate. The main vibration of the vehicle can cause the plate to make an annoying sounds.

Check to see if the rear glass is aligned properly.

Etc...

Good luck on your quest. I have yet to test things out, but haven't had a chance to.

Thanks for the info, but I know about the vibration when you first take off but when I'm going 30 mph still doesn't make sense. It started recently so something is going on. I also have put the foam tape behind the license plate that helped a ton. Can't believe I didn't think of that! I'm just stuck on the 30 mph vibration, almost like the tires are out of balance but their not I have brand new toyos on.

Check out your heat shields (especially the cat converter). Some of the bolts could either be rusted or loose.
Lubricate the tailgate hinges.
Wrap up the tailgate gas springs with a towel or foam.

Basically, before you could fix the problem, pin point where the sound is coming from. If it's coming from your suspensions, have a suspension specialist look at it. It could possibly be your bushings or the trailer arm.

The vibrations you are talking about aren't what i'm looking for. I have a vibration coming from the drive train. I also have a new problem! My gas mileage had dropped to 18 mpg and it smells really rich!
