On a car with as many years and miles, it might just be time to get into the cleaning of the Throttle position sensor, and the Mass air flow. Neither of these is hard with the correct cleaner that you can buy from Napa or similar. I would encourage you to clean them one at a time and reverify that the car starts and runs. Hopefully better but no worse.
Also lets check the battery and alternator condition. If either of these are weak and not doing their job, they cause all kinds of mayhem.
