Would love to change out my 2019's head unit for something from Phoenix automotive or a Chinese head unit.

Cant seem to find anything for the 5th Gen crv though. Even Crutchfield says it's not recommended and they don't show any available head units.

Anyone know anything about this? I feel like no ones done it yet?

The needed parts likely don't exist yet. The head unit is integrated into several of the vehicles systems so you can't just swap it out.

This looks like it has a lot to offer.

There have been others posted here in the past. Perhaps a site search will bring up an old thread.

Just use caution, as I picked a couple of potential issues out of the description on a very quick read thru. I'm not sure if these are issues with the 5TH Gen CR-V. Just advising anyone seriously considering it to read and understand what you are getting and compatibility.

1.Steering wheel control
Set steering wheel keys on this unit to match your car steering wheel buttons. It will make your driving safer.
(If your car has canbus system, please just contact to us because it just support analog signal.)

2. Rear view camera
Back image will display on the screen automatically when you back the car.
(Only support RCA type back up camera input)

3. Didn't see any mention of SiriusXM or satellite radio (IIRC, the signal may only be available in NA???)

Just would like more of a bezeless display, and better functionality when it comes to using a obd2 reader to display on your screen and watching movies and stuff.

Lots of work arounds for it with the stock head unit but nothing that works as good as a aftermarket android head unit.

Also having a better amp and dsp going to my aftermarket setup would be nice

For the better amp and dsp there are several aftermarket solutions that will take the stock head unit's output and process it and feed it to an aftermarket amp setup to create most any level of higher end output you'd want. For example, look at Audiocontrol units such as the LC71i, or their amps with those functions built in.

If there is one to be had, I consider it a gutsy thing to do with these modern cars, with the Head Unit being so integral to accessing a lot of your vehicles feature programming.

Not saying it would be impossible or undoable.. just gutsy :) And you certainly cannot go and cry on the dealerships shoulders if you have any issues (primary or secondary) with your cars electronic subsystems.

Yes I have already installed a aftermarket amp and dsp. Just saying it would have been nice to have a all in one setup with the head unit. But at this stage mostly just looking for a faster, bezeless display.

As an avionics technician, I am not so worried about the wiring. Just need a head unit that will be able to accept all the different feeds. Which looks like is not the case as of yet.

They're getting closer at having an OEM replacement - if nothing else at least in terms of look and feel.

You get most of the climate controls in some and some steering wheel commands but not all. However I still haven't seen anything that lets you set the vehicle settings (door locks, safety, fuel consumption, etc.) and you'll lose the Garmin navi and the day/night dimming of the car sensor. They are supposed to have their own ambient light sensors but it will of course not match up with what the rest of the car is doing.

I'm waiting to see what happens with the next refresh. Hopefully honda will keep to it's minimal change approach to the gen V and just put in a display with a larger lcd real estate in a final refresh ahead of the next gen that we can swap into ours. That or some company will release large swap in displays that keeps the same head unit. In a couple of years that screen is going to look very outdated in our cars - if not already.

I'd say it's a lock that the mid-cycle refresh is going to get the same sort of unit they are putting in the Odyssey. But I think it's a forlorn hope that it will be plug-compatible with our cars. (If that would even be remotely affordable, which it won't be)

I know that the audio unit is separate from the display, but I wonder *how* separate. As in, is the idea of a pass-thru unit feasible where you'll push a button on the aftermarket unit, and the picture from the original will appear, with full touchscreen controls. (And audio controls that don't do anything, of course.)

Hadn't seen th a/c controls working yet, that is cool. This probably means that they are successfully communicating with the B can (im assuming b and not f contains a/c). The steering wheel controls and rear camera button are less magic to me, but at least it's working.

I bet these functions are consistent across a few Honda cars... I also bet that recreating the more refined vehicle settings requires vehicle model specific design.

I'd love a few RCA out's on the thing.
If you but pay attention, you'll see your solution to that in my previous post. The AudioControl LC71i and their other amps include all that and much more, and can be connected right up to your OEM head unit. And there are others, as well.

When the first thing on their site is an "unboxing" review, yeap Chinese garbage.

Then a bunch of piss poor translations and lack of ability to spell...

TOTAL GARBAGE. And way over priced to go along with it.

Just scamming people because there is no other offerings right now.

I will not be so fast in dismissing such alternatives. I had one of those in my old VW Tiguan and I was quite pleased with its integration, including can-bus, steering wheel controls, back-up camera, ability to install all apps directly on the head-unit, large memory, sub-woofer pre-amp connectors, etc. The missing things were HD and satellite radio. I also have a similar Chinese unit (bought from Alibaba) on my wife's RAV4 and she likes it. Same goes with other people who drove with me.

These are definitely not scams, nor garbage, but decent alternatives. Having said that, I don't know details about the exact model presented above. Besides, the EX-L factory unit is a good product and I don't plan to replace it.

Good video. No links in the video of where an how to purchase this.

Surprised that there is hardly any main box unit behind the screen as compared to the original unit they take out in this video.

I have the equivalent of touring, 330W system with the subwoofer. Does anybody know if all the speakers are powered through a separate amplifier somewhere in the car, or are the door speakers powered by the head unit. The sound is good, not sure if there is a DSP. Don't know where the amplifier is placed, or how the 330W is split to various speakers. Nothing in the specs.

Good to know that climate control can work with aftermarket units. Not sure about the service reminders etc.

Thank you

Amp is in the center console area, right underneath the rear usb ports against the floor. The amp has the dsp, and the head unit communicates to the amp over serial connection, meaning you would need to tap into all the speaker wires post-factory-amp if you changed out the head unit.
