Interesting article about Honda's quality issues including the CR-Vs. As the article says "Are cracks showing in Honda's legendary quality and reliability?" On one hand "consumers appear to be looking past them for now" and on the other hand "The brand hasn't scored above the industry average since 2015."

Don't miss the Chris Martin spin, "front-footed" hilarious!!!

I wonder what the 2020 Dependability Study will say (for 2017 autos). If the number of CR-V complaints on the NHTSA are any indication it may not be good. The 2017 CR-V has 7 times the number of complaints compared with the 2017 RAV4 and 22 times compared to the 2017 Mazda CX-5. Even the 2017 Jeep Cherokee outscores the CR-V on the NHTSA, by a 4 to 1 margin at that.

"Honda discovered during the most intense years of the Takata recall, from 2014 to 2016, that customer trust rose. Honda was the most widely affected by that deadly defect, which caused airbag inflators to explode and spray shrapnel when deployed. But it was also the most aggressive in publicizing the recall, seeking out unrepaired vehicles and their owners and securing replacement inflators." - Its really too bad that they haven't gotten behind the latest cluster#[email protected]& and dealt with it the same way. Between my 2007 MDX needing a new small block at 90K miles and this major engine issue on the CRV my loyalty to Honda is at a low point. I don't think much of their legendary bulletproof reliability becasue I have yet to see in an auto I have purchased from them. However I will continue to buy their self propelled lawnmowers which have been stellar. So instead of getting $35k-40K every 7 years or so they will only get $500 when I guy a new mower.

"Honda spokesman Chris Martin said as long as recalls occur, the company's strategy is to be as transparent as possible. "I've looked closely over the years at what recalls do to our brand perception," said Martin, who focuses on recall and legal issues. "Basically, they actually help it. Customers tend to appreciate at least our strategy of being very transparent and front-footed in trying to resolve problems upfront." - WOW I almost threw up reading this paragraph! I guess transparency and getting out in front doesn't apply to "product updates". I wonder if Chris felt the need to go home and take a shower after this interview? He could run for office he's got the spin down to a science.

Who buys a $500 Honda lawn mower?

Mine cost $700+ in 1997 and is still going strong after replacing the worn-out the rear (driven) tires.

My Honda trimmer was $400 12 years ago and our snowblower was $3,000 in 1999.

I guess if you are buying a $500 lawn mower you really SHOULD expect to buy a new one every seven years...

Yes I buy the lower end 216 Model from the hardware store. Maybe its closer to $600 IDK and really don't care. It works fine for my 1/4 acre lot. It actually gets used hard in the fall as I have a wooded lot and mulch a lot of leaves. The engines run well after 7 years and I usually give them to someone who is less fortunate.
