Hey guys, after a lot of hesitation I decided to upgrade my factory stereo to one with Android Auto / Apple Carplay. I don't know if it works or not but will share my experiences so that someone else in the community might be benefitted

My Requirements were:
  • Basic Android Auto/Apple Carplay support: There are a lot of head units out there running a full android system but it requires its own GPS and its own way of connecting to internet (3g / Wifi). I wanted mine to be simple so that my phone is the main driver and GPS/Internet of phone would be used and I could utilize spotify offline playlists already downloaded on the phone.
  • Steering wheel controls: Mainly Volume +- and Track Next/Prev. Bluetooth call pickup/voice support would be a bonus considering it's complicated to setup for our vehicle
  • Capacitive touch screen: Many aftermarket radios out there have a resistive touch screen which can be a pain to use multi touch gestures like map zooming, etc.
  • Cost effective solution: I didn't want to spend a lot on the unit and I'm not a audiophile and would just need the basic functionality.
I have ordered the following:
  • Boss BVCP9685A which is a Double Din sized 7" screen Android Auto / Apple Carplay stereo with capacitive display, ASWC support for steering wheel control
  • SCOSCHE HA1714B which is a Double DIN dashkit for CRV 2012-2016
  • PAC RP-HD11 which is an interface which plugs in the vehicle connector and supports steering wheel controls
  • Maestro Acc-USB-TO2 My attempt to utilize the usb port in compartment next to drivers seat.
I hope these components work together since the salesperson had warned me that the cheap Boss unit might not play nice with steering wheel controls.

Will keep you posted how the install goes!
on my 2012 lx i installed a 10” android 9.0 radio as well as a camera on the passenger mirror so i can see the curve when parallel parking

That looks cool! Were you able to make the bluetooth call pickup/decline working? If yes, did you tap into wire from the steering wheel column or the Bluetooth module?

Is this xtrons android 10"?
To be honest I haven’t try picking up calls from the steering wheel ? i just hit answer on the screen and it connects to the speakers of the car. Pretty much the radio is plug and play. I can control volume and skip songs from the steering wheel buttons but I haven’t try picking up calls.

here is the link of the radio. If you can find it from someone in the USA ?? because it takes a while from china.

Update:
Installation went really good. Android Auto works very well, sound output is better than factory, SWC controls worked (except call pickup / reject / voice) . I reprogrammed SWC long press for Track next and previous as "Call Pickup" and "Voice" respectively. When I get a call, I could just press "Next Track" for 2 seconds and pick up! Looks great!! nice job.

what radio did you end up getting? looks like a 7 inch. mine has the hazard lights on top since is a 10 inch, for calls pickup or reject i just use the touch screen. then only thing I want to get for my radio is a sim card so that way the radio gets its own internet connection. i'm looking for a cheap internet provider separated from my current provider (Verizon) that i could pay for a whole year and don't worry about that.

with my radio I can use my phone as hotspot but I will be wasting my data since I don't have unlimited data plan. I can either play spotify on my phone and listen on the radio and skip song using the radio controls or I can get internet through my phone and play spotify on my radio. I just subscribe to spotify a week ago now
i notice that I can listed to it offline so I will download my play list to listen to it offline.

its definitively an upgrade for anybody that is thinking to do it, is totally worth it.
