That is so sad.
Many moons ago, (and possibly still on the Internet) here in the UK, a Subaru Impreza was at a car show, at a race circuit. The Subaru was parked in the public car park, and was completely stripped down (all doors, wheels and hood/trunk, sears etc) and no one batted an eye lid. Because the thieves were using a fake breakdown van so no one thought anything of it.What I don't get is how they do that, it isn't like a five minute job, and no one calls the police. Or are the police really slow there? I have never heard of Honda issue being stolen but these are strange times.
I quit using wheel locks years ago. They will only stop amateurs. Pros, even semi-pros, will have keys for wheel locks already in their possession anyway. Last time I checked, Honda wheel locks only had about a dozen different keys, and they are only $10-$15 each.... so not really a true deterrent. Now you got me considering taking the wheels locks off my CRV 🤣 But I guess you could just lock your glove box too so you only have to deal with the window and not the wheels
Question: were they stock OEM wheels and tires, or were they upgrades by the dealer (or aftermarket) and fancier tires?Hi, new here, and new to CRVs. I was really loving it for the 48 hours I was able to drive it before this happened:

Is this a common occurrence with CRVs?
Unfortunately incorrect, that's a hybrid model which is why I'm guessing the thieves took his wheels as they were the gloss black onesIt appears this is a EX/EXL model? Those wheels aren't any thing special in my opinion. Maybe the Hybrid units.
Well F1 cars only have 1 lug nut per wheel 🤣Nah, it is the Hybrid becoz the side mirror is black
too slow, think about F1
It only take few second with a group of professional
unless they work with Alpine, taking hit with penalty after penalty after penalty...lol
Could just be the OEM sport gloss black rims. The 2023 CR-V'S are new cars and the gloss black rims I feel like would look pretty attractive to thieves...Question: were they stock OEM wheels and tires, or were they upgrades by the dealer (or aftermarket) and fancier tires?
I ask because generally stock OEM wheels and tires these days are not really high value targets for thieves.
I've had multiple cars over the years including one from 2005 and not one of them have had any wheels stolen and I don't even have wheel locks on any of my cars besides my '22 and '23 CR-V's. I removed the wheel locks from our Honda Odysseys somewhere around 2014 because it got stuck on and so far no one's tried to steal them 🤷♂️I quit using wheel locks years ago. If I were one of those owners who spends an extra $3K or so for upgraded wheels and tires, I would go with high end locks with keys that are not a dime a dozen and available to anyone at any parts counter.
We also cannot discount that this was a deliberate "griefing" theft of some kind. It may actually not be about the wheels/tires at all... particularly if they are stock OEMs. It might have been something as simple as a dare among teens... resulting in this vehicle being randomly targeted for some bragging rights tribal challenge.Could just be the OEM sport gloss black rims. The 2023 CR-V'S are new cars and the gloss black rims I feel like would look pretty attractive to thieves...
Are you getting it repaired by a garage or the dealership? Thanks for all the positive wishes. Here's some answers to some of the questions so far:
- It's a hybrid sport touring -- apparently the 19" wheels are hot due to parts shortages
- Impossible to exchange for a new car, but I'm feeling good about the shop and their ability to make it feel new again
- Insurance has already come through and will fully cover everything
- I did not let anyone tow it / pull it up onto a flatbed. I knew it would simply destroy the undercarriage and brake assemblies -- I bought 4 used snow wheel/tires as a set the next day on Craigslist, installed them myself, and drove it home
- Once I get the car back, I am likely going to get a set of cheaper 18" wheels and sell the 19s (let me know if you're interested)
- Oh, and the cops have been useless.
On your last point, here’s my true story —Thanks for all the positive wishes. Here's some answers to some of the questions so far:

A reputable local collision shop. Dealerships (or at least mine) only do mechanical work. Are you getting it repaired by a garage or the dealership?
A few weeks and you will be able to put this all behind you.A reputable local collision shop. Dealerships (or at least mine) only do mechanical work.
A short list of what needs fixing:
Overall could be worse. (this is my trying to stay positive)
- 4 new wheels (obviously)
- Windows front and rear
- Window trim front and rear (they tried to jimmy both doors before smashing a window)
- Front door sill/rocker (dented from the milk crate collapsing)
- Metal brake assembly backplates (bent from sitting on the ground -- rotors were fine)
Seems cops on both sides of the Atlantic share the same handbooks.Oh, and the cops have been useless.
It would have been solved by Barnaby on Midsomer 5 mins after the fete ended!Seems cops on both sides of the Atlantic share the same handbooks.
Fingers crossed your ride is put back to new ASAP.
Please do keep us abreast of progress if you are able/wish to. 👍
Sorry the cops were useless, well and everything. I would still be sitting on the parking lot sobbing if that happened to meThanks for all the positive wishes. Here's some answers to some of the questions so far:

Not only the wheels but tires also! When you say jimmy the doors do you mean they used a device to go down the inner door panel to try to unlock? Could they have damaged something in the door. Maybe punched a hole in the vapor barrier?A reputable local collision shop. Dealerships (or at least mine) only do mechanical work.

You'd be surprised. There's videos of guys doing it in less than 60secs.What I don't get is how they do that, it isn't like a five minute job, and no one calls the police. Or are the police really slow there? I have never heard of Honda issue being stolen but these are strange times.
