When I drive at slower speeds and on rough surface I get a knocking noise that is like something knocking on the floor boards. It is generally coming from the front. I have already eliminated the sway bars and links as well as all the ball joints look OK. There is nothing loose under the vehicle although it sounds like something is real loose and flopping around.
Is it possible that the rack and pinion steering could be making this noise? It's really driving me crazy trying to figure it out, maybe someone else has had a similar issue.

Thanks, I disconnected the sway bars so I know that's not it. The sound seems to be coming from the front drivers side. I jacked it up and used a pry bar to jostle it up and down and could not replicate I also grabbed the tire at 9 and 3 o'clock and shook it and got a little noise. I will try to upload a video I took also.

Thanks for all the input! I found a really good suspension shop and made an appointment to take it in Friday and get it diagnosed. I'll report back with the findings in case it helps others out.
The shop I am going to had nothing but good reviews on Yelp and is a smaller family owned shop. I talked with the owner and he said his guys will figure out what the problem is in less than an hour.

Found the KNOCK

I just wanted to report back for others. I found out what the knocking, banging was under my CRV that has been so elusive to find. It was the rack and pinion. I replaced it and all the knock and banging is now gone! I never knew it could make that kind of a noise. I had it replaced at an alignment shop and they said there was all kinds of slop where the tie rods come out of it. My CRV is set up for towing so I suspect it was caused by being drug around by an RV earlier in its life. I got a remanufactured rack and pinion for $126 and paid a shop to install for $400. If anyone wants to know where I got it I bought it here:

BTW If you dialog with their support and thank them for being so helpful they asked me to post a comment on FB and they would give me a $25 credit. It worked for me!
