I just changed the spark plugs in friend's 2008 CRV LX 2WD with 195,000 miles. They had been previously changed at least once. These little green rubber inserts fell out of two of the coil connectors. When I tried to reinsert them, they just didn't seem to fit correctly and then connector didn't have free space to correctly connect to the coil. My questions are: 1. what is the purpose of this green inserts 2. any idea how they should be inserted and 3. finally, are they necessary? Thank you,

They prevent dust and water from meeting the plug terminals. They are mini dust caps.

Any idea how to put them in? Do they belong in the coil pack or the connector?
