Hi, I just upgraded my newly bought (second hand) honda cr-v gen 4, 2015 to a 20inch mags from its original 17inch. The look was so cool and admirable however, when I drove through the highway and pick up a speed of 100kph, I noticed a loud engine noise, and strong road noise. I also noticed that my km/liter of gas have increased. Is this due to the change in the size of my wheel? Thanks in advance. Dan

It might due to change in weight of the wheel and tire.
Driving in Sport mode will also do that.
Honestly my 16 Touring has 18 and virtually no sidewall. I can't imagine you have a sidewall any thicker than a rubber band.

EDIT: What wheel rim width and offset, and tire size are you running?

It is well documented that a heavier wheel (17" to 20") will cut your fuel mileage. More mass to get rollin'.

If km/l increased, does that not mean better fuel mileage? It would for miles/gal which is the same type of ratio: distance per volume of fuel.

hi aluminated, thanks for your response, I should say, "the km/liter have decreased" and therefore petrol consumption for a shorter distance was the same as with longer distance.

20" aren't that bad. I have 20s in my venza.

Wheel diameter has little to do with it. It's about the weight of the wheel. Just because it's larger doesn't mean it's heavier. Corresponding tire size and weight play a part as well.

First if you didn't keep the same aspect ratio your speedometer may be way off. Second going to wider tires will 100% decrease your fuel mileage. Also wider tires produce much more road noise.
