I just noticed to my surprise and dismay today that my black vinyl bumper is getting some lengthy cracks. I am feeling guilty that I have not put any protectant on the bumpers of this 2007 which I purchased 21 months ago. I am learning as I go along. I looked for a topic on this and there was a some discussions on maintaining the black bumper look. I would like to find a good product that will protect the vinyl as well as keep it from fading. I live in Texas so, of course, there is much sun and intense heat....like 106 degrees this last Monday. Whewww!

I also googled for a good protector of bumpers and many products came up. If anyone has had this occur to their bumper or just knows a very good product to use, I would very much appreciate your input.

Thank you for your replies!

Got pics? Is your bumper OEM or could it have replaced in an accident?

I've seen bumpers fade from UV light. They kinda get 'streaky'.

Protectants (or synthetic waxes like TurtleWax ICE) just make the plastic 'blacker'. A severely faded plastic bumper needs to be painted with a flat black flex paint for the most permanent solution.

For actual cracks, you need a repair kit. Here's a vid of how it's done.
